Is he the last one? I lost track.

Opinion: 18 years for this sentence to be carried out is HORSESHIT. The wheels of justice need to move much faster than that.

I concur. There should be some sort of cutoff for appeals. Either a max number of appeals or a time limit.

According to the article, two or the perps remain on death row.

The article says two are left. ?

I have never understood while there was even a trial.?

Texas law death penalty?
Commits the murder while escaping or attempting to escape from a penal institution

The Texas Law of Parties[1] states that a person can be criminally responsible for the actions of another in certain circumstances, including "[i]f, in the attempt to carry out a conspiracy to commit one felony, another felony is committed by one of the conspirators, all conspirators are guilty of the felony actually committed, though having no intent to commit it, if the offense was committed in furtherance of the unlawful purpose and was one that should have been anticipated as a result of the carrying out of the conspiracy."

Speaking of death row, TDCJ keeps some interesting stuff on their
website about it:
List of death row offenders:

Executed offenders (including last statements):

Reading through the conviction summaries for the inmates reaffirms my
opinion that life without parole is too good for some people.

The Texas Prison Museum in Huntsville sells a book that contains more
information like their last meals and such. It's a very interesting
read. Definitely worth stopping by the museum if you happen to be in
that area. Ol' Sparky, the actual electric chair used for years, is in
the museum as well.
