Re: Cowtown Hamfest
开云体育It was great to break bread with the few that made it to the show!I did move quite a bit of stuff and have plenty more to bring out to Irving. @John, thanks for "hosting" the lunch! The printed signs made it official! On 1/21/23 16:21, k5jy via groups.io

Re: Cowtown Hamfest
It was great to see the "ERSians" that dropped by for lunch today!? It was like a long-delayed family reunion (even if a couple of "out-laws" crashed the event, and a couple that RSVP'd "yes" didn't/couldn't make it.)? I don't know what the next big N. Texas hamfest will be (Irving?? Lewisville?,) but we should do this again sooner rather than later (anything done more than twice becomes a tradition <grin>.)? Hope y'all had a good time at the hamfest -- I know Jay went home with less tonnage than he brought.? Anybody score a great deal you'd be willing to brag about?? (I was tempted once, but I didn't see anything that was on my wish list, so I came home with all the cash I left home with.)? I did leave the hamfest before the "last chance" drawing -- any of us hit the jackpot, or even a lesser pot?? Any other reports of an outstanding class/session/seminar?

Re: Cowtown Hamfest
I was at the hamfest today from 1500-1700.? Sat through a fascinating class on "NCTC history, usage, and procedures."? The schedule says it will be presented twice more on Saturday (once at 0900 and once at 1000) and I highly recommend you attend one of them.? If you can't or won't, be sure to drop by the NCTC table on the main selling floor (near the prize ticket barrel,) and pick up a copy of the system map with the repeater info and lead volunteers on the back.. I didn't find a decent outdoor or balcony location for the "N5ERS BYO Lunch and Eyeball QSO," but it looks like Room #201 will be empty, starting at 1100 and continuing through the lunch hour (1200-1300,) so I propose that we commandeer the room for our purpose.? I'll tack up some signs to make us "official."? If for some reason that doesn't work out, Room #202 shows to be unused during the lunch hour and the following hour (1300-1400,) and I hereby designate it as "Plan B."? I suspect that 2 hours will be enough time to do the meetin' and eatin'.
One piece of advice -- it appeared that the food concessionaire was really low on the small denominations of cash required to make change, so if you think you might need to buy something there, bring small bills and coins.
See y'all there!

Re: Cowtown Hamfest
As of this morning, the (preliminary) hamfest schedule is available -- you take the link on the home page, and then download a .zip file.? Unzipping that gets you a folder containing a .pdf file, which is the schedule.? I noted that 1200-1300 on Saturday is "Lunch," so that'll be the time we gather.
I'll be using my HT to monitor 444.850 FM (the output of the N5ERS UHF repeater,) and will reply simplex on it (in previous Cowtown Hamfests in that location I was not ever able to reliably "hit" the repeater with my Icom IC-92AD and an upgraded whip antenna -- YMMV.)
I'll be onsite on Friday, and will scout out a location for our BYO Lunch and Eyeball QSO -- I'll describe it here after I get home.
See y'all there!

Good catch Fred.. Somehow my coffee deprived brain missed that.
What I find curious is that I have seen no chatter on ANY of the area club reflectors about this. Usually they are pumping the fest months in advance. 20-21 jan is the OFFICIAL date.. I just got off the phone with David Forbes.. They are in the process of moving the site to another webserver / host so thats why it hasn't been updated. On 12/3/22 09:53, Fred via groups.io wrote:
