It is a yearly event and the largest consumer pet trade show on the east coast. CFA was invited by the expo organizers to hold a cat show in conjunction with the Pet Expo… and we did - an 8 ring (6AB, 2Spec) show on Saturday and Sunday. The Pet Expo was open Friday night from 5:00 p.m.to 9:00 p.m., but, unfortunately, there was no cat show for spectators to experience. However, thanks to Desiree Bobby and her Lykoi and Dawn Strosko with her Companion Cats, visitors were still able to visit with a few cats at the CFA booth. We hope they quickly get resources needed and they can start to move forward with their lives. We have been helping a lot of fanciers affected by mostly "age" and Illness-related issues. It seems every year we have a few heartbreaking cat fancier losses. It is always very sad to unexpectedly lose our longtime friends; we do our best for their kitties to move onto a happy new life in their honor. If you would like to donate in honor of a cat fancier that has passed, please let us know and we make a special tribute for them. We are also helping fanciers with cattery downsizing, or some who are preparing for semi show retirement, or surgeries, or hospice care this program is going well! We want to encourage everyone in the cat fancy to think about and make plans for your kitties should a unforeseen tragedy strike. Have a plan: Like our cattery management organizers (inquire-we have them available), it is good to have a file(s) or 3-ring binder with your individual cats info readily available to ID the cat with current medical status (ie: copies of vaccinations, Felv/FIV status, microchip, S-N, special needs- like diet, current medications, allergies, or no dogs, no children, dislikes baths or nail trim etc.) and the current treating veterinarian contact. Pictures are most important to ID the cats in each file. Info if a cat needs to be returned to someone (ie: some contracts stipulate a return to original bree

October 18 | 2022 From the President CFA’s October Board of Directors meeting, October 1-2, was conducted via ZOOM. This provided an opportunity for cat fanciers around the world to watch all the open session items being discussed. The participants and viewers exceeded 50 individuals. These Zoom meetings provide an opportunity for more fanciers to view in real time the CFA Board, Central Office, and committee members at work. The first report contained a review of the changes to the judging program. I encourage anyone who may be interested in becoming a CFA judge to reach out to members of the judging committee to discuss the new opportunities. Also, there have been changes to show rules that will be important for those fanciers who exhibit at shows, and for show producing clubs to understand. Those changes will be published as required. Well, “Team CFA”, if you participated in the CFA Townhall on October 11, you heard and saw first-hand the CFA rebrand reveal. Although we heard many positive comments about the new brand and logo. Unfortunately, we also heard some negative comments. The Marketing Committee is reviewing and considering your valuable input, both good and bad. We appreciate your passion for CFA and how we represent ourselves to the world. Don’t forget to support our clubs by attending shows. Clubs work very hard to provide these opportunities to show your beautiful cats, to make new friends, and to connect with old friends. Goblins, ghosts, and treats are just around the corner! CFA was a sponsor as it has been since the event’s inception 26 years ago. This year saw attendance by Members of Congress, their spouses, and staff members, along with representatives of the USDA, industry leaders in veterinary medicine, pharmaceuticals, animal nutrition, and other pet care-related organizations. During the day, George Eigenhauser spearheaded our visits to Congress and was one of nearly 100 individuals who attended various meetings that day with representatives from almost half of the U.S. states. For Pet Night, the CFA booth was run by Kathy Calhoun, Susan Cook Henry, Melanie Morgan, and the real star of the evening – a cream Persian named “Jamie.” No doubt he wowed the crowds, and endeared many with his laid-back personality. Despite being admired and handled by so many fans while looking at a sea of phone cameras, Jamie kept his cool and was genuinely intrigued by the surroundings! CFA’s team was active in engaging sponsors who showed interest in working relationships with CFA and its marketing/branding efforts.
