Could you elaborate on that one, Randy. I’m on Mail 13.0 in Catalina. I’m using the 3-pane view, which I suspect most people do. When I type “Command-i”, nothing happens. 开云体育HiThe specific preference it is referring to is the Security and Privacy, Privacy, Microphone. Please check that toggle. If its still not working correctly, I would simply download the newest version of Zoom and reinstall. Paul

Zoom meeting microphone issue
开云体育Hello, I am getting the attached error message when using Zoom on my Mac Air. Any suggestions? I have Zoom enabled in my settings, and my microphone is on and working fine. Barb |

Oops, I should have sent that one as a question, not a statement. And, combing through the menus again, I do see <Command-Option-I>, but the item is non-selectable, and I cannot figure out how to change that.

My mail app keeps suddenly shutting down. Unfortunately I didn’t take a screen shot of the error message. But I am wondering is there some way to reset mail (reset might not be the correct term)?Whenever I've seen this, it's been due to a malformed/malicious/spammy e-mail message that Mail has encountered on your ISP's server. The way to deal with that is to log into your ISP's mail server using the Web-based interface most ISP's provide and to delete the problematic e-mail manually. The problematic one is usually easy to spot. It's usually either spammy or unreadable. If your ISP doesn't offer a Web interface, you can use: MyPOPBarrier (free) Another option is to hit Command+i in Mail, which will bring up a window "Account Info" allowing deletions of messages from your ISP's mail server. ___________________________________________ Randy B. I thought it was curious that Apple moved to a new technology on one of its product lines but not on another where I assumed the migration might be easier. I was merely wondering why that might be. For example, perhaps Apple might be waiting until they move the entire Mac platform to a non-Intel processor line, and this might be a clue that this might be coming soon. I was just fishing for other people’s guesses or informed opininions. Again, I’m sorry if I said something offensive, and if so I’d be grateful for a more detailed exposition of what that was, either privately or on-list; you’re choice. |
Re: Mail keeps shutting down
开云体育I’m on High Sierra 10.13.6, and recently I’ve been noticing it too. On Feb 5 I ran security update 2020-001. I don’t know if it started then or not, I think a good deal later. It often happens when I send a message, but it is after it is sent, as it does exist in the sent folder. Since the message is sent it is no big deal. One thing I have seen, though, is when I click on the restart button it does not. I have to relaunch Mail from the dock.

Thanks too for the warning about Mail. I will watch closely for the next couple of days, and if necessary will downgrade back to Mojave. Jim On Mar 18, 2020, at 16:52, Randy B. Singer <randy@...> wrote: |

A reinstall of the latest update for your version of the operating system replaces the application files - in case there is corruption there. Have you tried a Safe Boot to see if Mali crashes while in Safe Mode? Perhaps it is a third party component creating the issue, On Mar 18, 2020, at 5:43 PM, Joan Sax via Groups.Io <jsax@...> wrote: |

Clean installs are always a good thing, especially if you have been doing in-place upgrades. I find that I like to download the latest versions of all my important software after the install. The Mac App Store should always have the latest versions of the software purchased from there. Other utility software van also be downloaded from the authors website. Major applications, this can be a good time to upgrade to the latest versions. While you can copy across your settings, I feel it’s a good time to reconfigure everything so you get the best out of your system from here forward. You will also need to check to see which apps are 32 bit and won’t be able to be moved to Catalina. Christopher On 19 Mar 2020, at 4:37 am, Jim McGarvie <jim@...> wrote: |

I am ready to upgrade to Catalina, and I would like to do a complete clean installI have an entire Web site devoted to telling you what to do: Upgrading To The Very Latest Macintosh Operating System especially item #6 I just want to point out that upgrading to Catalina is fraught with pitfalls. Here is what I posted to another list just the other day to someone asking if it is okay to upgrade to Catalina: While the largest bug causing data loss in Mail.app has been fixed as of 10.15.3, there still seem to be bugs in Mail that can cause data loss. The most common of which occurs if you move data from one folder to another in Mail. Catalina breaks a lot of drivers for third party scanners and printers, and the manufacturers of these scanners and printers have been unusually slow (or completely negligent) about providing updated drivers. The developers of VueScan and ExactScan are likely happy about the situation though. (These are third party, commercial, scanner drivers that often solve the problem.) Users shouldn't upgrade to Catalina until they are sure that there are updated drivers available for all of their peripherals. And, of course, lots of 32-bit apps need to be updated for Catalina. Microsoft and Adobe apps in particular may have to be re-purchased at very high cost if one upgrades to Catalina. Office 2011 isn't 64-bit, and never will be. So it can't run under Catalina. It has to be replaced after upgrading to Catalina. Office 2016 isn't 64-bit, but it can be updated for FREE to be, and once updated it will run find under Catalina: Office 2019 (the latest version), of course, is entirely compatible with Catalina. ___________________________________________ Randy B. Re: iOS, iPadOS now WiFi6, but even newest MacBook Pros still 802.11ac
开云体育Probably, because like 5G, it isn’t a settled standard yet. Many devices out there are 802.11ax, but most of them existed before WiFi6 was certified. It isn’t always about money Jim, although you always seem to think it is.. Christopher
