Hi

Yes Migration assistant will ignore the previous versions of pages, numbers and keynote?

All your browser settings preferences are in your user library and will transfer straight away.?

I usually allow migration assistant to bring all the programs across and then - before launching any non apple ones, go to the website (such as zoom or Skype) and download the silicon version.?

You probably will have to install Rosetta - any non silicon version of the app will ask if you wish to install it when you attempt to launch it.?

I usually allow Time Machine to inherit the previous backups for continuity. So you should be able to use the same drives.?

. Some imagination required.?

No, but you can give feedback about it at:

When I move up and down messages in a message thread, organized by conversation, the message in the Preview window is not always the message highlighted in the list. This is not consistent, but most often it is one of my replies that is “stuck". One particular email, often the last one I sent, will repeat over and over as I move up or down the thread while other peoples replies will change as expected. Or Mail will ignore my replies and show the previous recipients mail instead of my reply. As a result, I can’t follow the actual conversation. This has been true for a long time though many iterations. I have found no particular pattern or cause.

FYI, my replies in the thread are BCCs to myself, not emails from the Sent folder though this does happen with emails from the Sent folder as well.

Yes, irregularly, often, and not easily predictable.

I would also note that I am suspicious of the interlocking inset with the cooling blades. The blades seem like an unnecessary obstruction to airflow. The Mini and Studio vent from the bottom are designed to sit on a flat surface, unobstructed. Recessing this exhaust behind these blades adds obstruction. The fact that they look like cooling blades is very misleading as they will have the opposite effect, capturing heat and sending it up.?

That said, heat is not a big problem with these Macs and this probably makes no real world difference. Still it makes me suspicious of the overall design quality.

Reviews for any of them haven't been spectacular but there are also very few reviews.?
Delivery time for the Raycue is 1-2 weeks either through Amazon or direct. Delivery is shorter for the others.?
?
Clever design however and sure is a clean looking setup.?
Thanks for the link.?

The iFixIt Mini breakdown makes it clear that the Wifi antenna is in the *base* of the Mini.

Sitting that base on, or surrounding it by, something metallic may impair Wifi connectivity – this has already been noted with the Satechi Stand and Hub.

Free Macintosh Software !

Hi everyone! I'm excited to announce that my most popular Web site:

FREE MACINTOSH SOFTWARE

at:

has been extensively updated, and there are now 210 pieces of free software listed!! It is an embarrassment of riches! (Or lack of riches, depending on how you look at it!)

Among the updated listings are several exciting new programs which utilize artificial intelligence, business collaboration programs, an app that will allow you to run iOS apps on your Macintosh, an app to teach you keyboard shortcuts, an app that's always available to allow you to take notes, an app that will instantly transcribe dictation, etc.

If you haven't gone through all of the listings recently, it's worth looking through them again. There are sure to be free apps that you will find that will prove to be invaluable, for newbies and graybeards alike.

Please spread the word about the Web site to others!

Their new product launch videos make everything look so appealing :-). I’ve stopped watching those and it has gone a long way to suppressing the desire for new “candy”.

Sure, there are people doing things that require every new computer and OS that comes out. There are also people, like me who ran my office on two Mac Book Pros (2009 and 2014 models) and 3 MB airs all of 2013 vintage. Those computers did everything needed exceptionally well and there was no logical reason to update or "fix" what wasn't broken.
?
The purpose of my computers was to function for my practice, in my office effectively. All of them did that right up until I retired in 2022!
?
I regularly use SuperDuper version 3.5 to create multiple bootable clones. Works great!

About a year ago I found that my 2012 Mac mini had slowed down. I’d often get the beachball. I had my Mac tech check the system out. He couldn’t find anything wrong and said it was fairly normal for new versions of software to run slowly on older systems.
It’s “normal” on Windows. It is abnormal for the Macintosh. Your Mac might run slowly for a few days after upgrading to a new version of the Mac OS, because it’s doing things like re-indexing your hard drive for Spotlight in the background, but that is only very temporary.

It’s a myth that new(er) versions of the Mac OS use more RAM and/or slow down your older Mac. Once again, probably because that’s very common on Windows. But each new version of the Mac OS tends to use *less* RAM, due to improved memory management, and they tend to actually run *faster* then earlier versions.

The one big exception is if your older Mac has an internal rotating disk hard drive and it gets re-formatted from HFS+ to APFS in the process. That will indeed slow things down precipitously. Mojave and later will do that non-optionally.

Macintosh Slowdown Solutions
