Moderated Linux (Deb) Installed - Questions about HKJ gMFSK
Got everything up and running on Debian for the most part. Still doing some tweaking. gMFSK compiled and installed fine. Just finished a QSO with George K1EPT and Dave VE3IXI. Couple of issues presented themselves. Using an old TS-830S, I have no rig control so I didn't load hamlib. Not sure if this is related to the problems. First - the waterfall frequency scale is currently showing between 9000 and 10500 Hz. I know I'm not transmitting at these high audio tones. I found that by hitting the little box beside SYNC & the spinner box (showing 1015 - is this my audio freq?) that the scale shifts so that where I had the hairline moves all the way to the left. Now how do I get it back to where it's showing my actual audio frequency? Second - in the log section, BAND is currently showing 0.008556 and it cannot be edited. This looks like it corresponds to the waterfall's frequency scale. I expected this box to allow me to enter the band (either 40 or 7.000 - I only log the band, not the actual frequency). Third - I programmed a macro in F2 but every time I hit F2 it doesn't send the macro, it clears the log. Other than these issues, the QSO with Dave went great. I don't think I'm going to miss MixW so much. Think I can get a refund? 73, Kev - K4VD - SKCC 605

Hard to say, maybe if u convince them to get W1hkj on their development team you may find u have a life-time membership. On the other had -- no doubt it...but if you can give me ur reg# and lets see if we can do it twice... hi hi

Moderated identifying modes 2
Felt like a rookie tonight...called a cq on mfsk16..was answered but had no print. It felt and sounded like mfsk, did the usuall...rev..slide up and down...and scratch the head. Then a good friend of mine came on and said it was Olivaa...ok buy that...but before I got a chance the orginal caller came back and said that no it had been mfsk8 by a mistake on his part... Granted wide awake I probably would have probably not thought Olivia, but on the other hand, I doubt if i would have guessed mfsk8. Not sure I have ever hand an mfsk8 contact. I still like the idea of being able to identify the modes by the sound and feel of them. It just feels better, to know that I have that ability. To the point i guess..how do u feel about some of the mode indentifiers being used these days. Ever notice that some are up to twice as wide as the primary signal. The cw mode identifiers make sense to me, but then again I'm good at cw, while some would have a problem. Bandwidth and sound both are good clues, as is the picture on the waterfall, but its not a certain thing will all the variants these days. Maybe instead of the video ID's, CW ID's and such we need something more simple, and suits all including the hearing impaired that the digi modes have given the hobby back to. Just kinda rambling... but it got me thinking..a bit anyways..

Moderated gmfsk-hkj version 0.46 posted
This version adds some TTY machine friendliness. You might want to grab this one if you do a lot of TTY qsos and the other end of the qso is on a "real" tty machine. Dave (hkj)

How are u making out Kevin.... give a shout when u have some time. I went throught the Suse install again as it is on the net now, and it's a bit convoluted to say the least. I wanted to see where maybe you had problems. Not hard to find them...the description of the ISO's leaves a lot to be desired and the mirrors sites have to be looked at hard... So let me know whats up... this is a new suse on a different drive from ground zero..have to admit it was not fun or quick, untill I went back to the idea of getting right away from the suse ftp.. all in all it took me probably 10 hours from ground zero to gmfsk up and running...to long...but have to admit a few were nap hours when i just had to wait... Moderated Where to find .deb package or help compile source gMFSK 5
Hey, I'm trying to upgrade gMFSK to the .7pre1. I'm running Debian Sarge w/ a 2.6 kernel, stable version. I've not found a good repository so far for apt, and when I try to build it, I'm getting the following output from the configure;(error part only) checking for libgnomeui-2.0... Package libgnomeui-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgnomeui-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'libgnomeui-2.0' found configure: error: Library requirements (libgnomeui-2.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. Any ideas? Thanks Riley.

Moderated New program & upgrade to gmfsk-hkj
A new beta test program for the Kachina 505DSP transceiver is posted. I also posted a new version of gmfsk-hkj (0.47) which targets the Kachina CAT program directly. No need to download this version unless you are using this rig. gmfsk-hkj remains compatible with all previous versions via the use of the "hkj-config.h" #define switches. With all switches turned off the program compiles to the original gmfsk-0.7pre1 release. Dave (hkj)

Moderated GMFSK Question 4
I use gMfsk with a Tentec Omni VI. When I'm on LSB the QRG in the waterfall is 1kc low, if I switch to USB its 1kc high. Any ideas how to correct this ?? I've asked before on linux-hams but never got any reply and Google was of no help. Xlog and Xdx are correct, so its somewhere in gMfsk or so I think. And my 02 cents worth....Debian stable. I've tried many many distros in the last 7 years and Debian suits my needs. 73 Ed W3NR

Moderated C compiler for gmfsk.hkj
./configre tells me there is no acceptable C compiler in $path. Also says no gawk, gcc, cc, cl. I see gcc-4.0 base and gcc-4.0 as being installed. I installed gawk, but what else do I need. ?? Ed W3NR

Moderated C compiler for gmfsk.hkj ***SOLVED*** 3
./configre tells me there is no acceptable C compiler in $path. Also says no gawk, gcc, cc, cl. I see gcc-4.0 base and gcc-4.0 as being installed. I installed gawk, but what else do I need. ?? Ed W3NR Thanks to some input from VE-Dave I managed to correctly compile. I guess I'm spolied by Debian and apt. Its been several years since I have compiled from source. Only problem is I have no hamlib in gmfsk now. I'm not sure how to go about enabling hamlib support now that gmfsk is compiled. IIRC you have to set a switch in gmfsk before you compile it to enable hamlib support. Any ideas and/or help. TIA Ed W3NR

Moderated Compiling Errors 4
I am having no luck at all compiling gmfsk.hkj.47. I get endless errors and am at a loss where to go from here. ./configure seems to be OK, its make and make install that is giving the errors. I tried compiling without hamlib. The warninngs and errors are endless. There is no way to cut and paste all the errors as the buffer isn't large enough. I see this at the end of make install. install-bin programs error1 install-am error2 install recursive error1 Any ideas, I'll be the first to admit that I'm in over my head. Ed W3NR Debian testing

Moderated Kachina info for beta testers
If you find strange behavior or the program will not communicate with the transceiver you can run the program in the test mode. Sorry, but this only works on Linux. Bring up the program from a terminal window using the following command line: Kachina TEST You will see the commands and the transceiver response sent to stdout (the terminal screen). To save the data stream to a file use: Kachina TEST >testfile for example. Then you can send me the testfile along with an explanation of what did or did not work during your use of the program. Added Squelch on/off indicator ALC meter All meters are now multi purpose and are toggled between the display modes by left clicking the mouse on the meter scale that you want to change. ALC meter is very useful in setting the audio drive from sound card in digital modes. Dave (hkj)
