I can confirm that transmitting with pulse causes the audio thread to 100% cpu usage and a zombie after exiting the program.? This is on Linux Mint 21.2 64 bit.? No change from earlier version.

I'd say you're in the wrong mode. The red line width seems like you're using a wider mode like MFSK16 or something like that but your waterfall looks to be showing BPSK31 signals. --David KI6ZHD

I tried Fldigi on my Raspberry Pi 5 with the last version of Raspberry Pi OS (bookworm). This version use Wayland (like the Ubuntu version you tried) as default instead of X11. From the release notes:
