New #NexusDR-X Linux software build from scratch; #fldigi will start; #flamp will not. #NexusDR-X #fldigi #flamp

Hello All,
?
I'm a brand new member of linuxham. I'm a Linux "user", not really an admin of any kind.
?
I have been running the FLDigi suite under Linux on a Raspberry Pi for several years. I was using an old image that was given to me. It was perfectly functional until it wasn't. So I recently rebuilt the system from scratch using Steve Magnuson's method 1 (RPi Imager). ? (This procedure uses 32-bit Bullseye).
?
It took a while on my RPi 4, but it all seemed to go correctly. But this installation script has not been updated in years and Steve has left the building. So I am concerned that this old script may be building a system that is not compatible with newer versions of the FLDigi suite programs. Is there anyone who can inspect my scripts and see if they contain incorrect syntax? I would be eternally grateful for any guidance.
?
During testing, I noticed the following:
The system boots and runs normally.
Using the menu buttons, Fldigi starts and works perfectly; I am able to send FSQ and MT63.
Flmsg starts and runs perfectly. I am able to send a message using MT63.
FLAMP will not start. When I click the FLAMP menu option, nothing happens.
If I try to run the FLAMP (right radio) script from usr/share/applications directory, nothing happens. Here is the script:
?
[Desktop Entry]
Name=flamp (right radio)
GenericName=Amateur Multicast Protocol Client/Server
Comment=Amateur Radio Communications
Exec=flamp -ti "Flamp (right radio)" --config-dir $HOME/.nbems-right --xmlrpc-server-port 7363
Icon=flamp
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=HamRadio;
?
Also, if I run FLAMP from the terminal command line:
flamp -ti "Flamp (right radio)" --config-dir $HOME/.nbems-right --xmlrpc-server-port 7363
?
Then FLAMP will start but will display "NOT CONNECTED".
I tried changing the port to 7362 and restarting FLAMP, it started but still did not connect.
?
Here is the FLMsg desktop script:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Fldigi (right radio)
GenericName=Amateur Radio Digital Modem
Comment=Amateur Radio Sound Card Communications
Exec=sh -c '/usr/bin/trim-fldigi-log.sh "yesterday"; fldigi --config-dir /home/pi/.fldigi-right -title "Fldigi (right radio)" --flmsg-dir /home/pi/.nbems-right'
Icon=fldigi
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=HamRadio;
?
Is this a known problem? Or should I be digging deeper? Thanks for any guidance. 73.

Re: #flrig Switching from CW to FT8 leaves filter width at 500 Hz #flrig

I was thinking about this. Why are we setting bandwidth for a rig like IC7300?
The algorithm appears to set the bandwidth as follows:
Have we seen this mode? Set the bandwidth to last time;
Else set it to the default for that mode.

The IC7300 remembers the filter and bandwidth for each mode even across being powered down. I, for one, would like to keep the bandwidth I've set for a mode. If I set a bandwidth of 3.6 kHz, I don't want flrig to change this back to the default 3.0 kHz next time I switch on.

The CI-V command has a setting to use default filter when setting mode. Could this be used instead?

Re: #flrig Switching from CW to FT8 leaves filter width at 500 Hz #flrig

All I can see is that the mode_bwA is getting corrupted when I change the CW bandwidth. The CW, CW-R, LSB, LSB-D, USB and USB-D values are all getting set to 9 (500 Hz). I set a breakpoint on IC7300.cx:def_bandwidth and peeked the values as I was changing mode from the dropdown list.

They also seem to be corrupted on the rig as well. But I need to devise a more rigorous experiment as I may be getting into a cycle of cause and effect. But it's time to start making Sunday dinner.

I did notice that as I changed the bandwidth on the CW filter it went to the sharp edge filter from the smooth edge filter. This seemed to be the rig doing this.

Re: #flrig Switching from CW to FT8 leaves filter width at 500 Hz #flrig

After some prompting by Mike Black in another forum, I have the following results.

The problem only occurs if I have transmitted in CW mode, AND the CW filter bandwidth was not its default value. I only get the problem accessing through flrig, and the problem also occurs when I select USD-D in the dropdown menu on flrig.

Time to rootle about in the code.

Phil.

Once I forgot to turn off sending QSO via API to an external log. And on the host this resource was deleted due to some circumstances or the server went down, and the timeout was too long. When executing macros where there is a <LOG> tag, there is a 15 sec delay before the start of transmission (TX).

Here's the story - don't forget to turn off what you don't need.

#flrig Switching from CW to FT8 leaves filter width at 500 Hz #flrig

This is a problem that has been bugging me for sometime. I finally decided to look into it.

I am running an IC-7300 and connecting to it with flrig. Most times I change my operating from CW to FT8 the filter bandwidth remains at 500 Hz. I am using WSJT-X to effect the switch. I have found the trace where WSJT-X is requesting the mode change and can see the XML and CAT interfaces. In the section below I see 4 CI-V transactions:

at 681 ms - On selected VFO, set USB-D, filter 1.

at 684 ms - Set bandwidth 9 - which I assume is what is setting it to 500 Hz (0 is 50 Hz, 40 is 3600 Hz).

at 686 and 689 ms - these are setting default Twin PBT settings.

Should we keep the bandwidth when we change modes or just keep the selected filter or even select the default filter for that mode?

Is there a limit on notifications?

Running FLDIGI version 4.1.18 on a Raspberry Pi 4.
?
I seem to be limited to 21 custom text search notifications before they begin glitching and changing form into "My callsign de CALL" notifications.
?
Is this limit normal and expected?
?
Is there any workaround for this limit?
?
Thanks!

Re: Allow mic MAC OS 4.2.06

I had the same issue yesterday but was able to resolve it thanks to this helpful website:?

Copy/Paste of the relevant bits:

Just open your terminal and paste in the following code (change the specific version to your own, of course):

codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/fldigi-4.2.05.app

Be careful to keep all the dashes, even the single one after "sign".

Terminal will prompt for your password, then reply with "/Applications/fldigi-4.2.05.app: replacing existing signature"

Now start FLDigi again. The prompt appears. Accept it... and...DONE!

Also getting that every time launching v.4.2.06.
I end up clicking "Allow" a half-dozen or so times and then I'm finally in.

Do you have a schematic or service manual? Might be able to pinpoint
where things could be going wrong in the USB/M-DIN path using that.

Re: Fldigi Freezing

I have installed FreeBSD 14.2 and the Mate desktop to 7 computers so far, and Fldigi.

So far, no freezes and it all seems to work flawlessly.

I also installed Flmsg, Flamp, and Flrig. I have not yet used Flrig, since my CAT-capable rigs
are down for repair.

WSTJ-X appears to be working well too.

It takes me about 2 hours of steady work to get the OPSYS, desktop, and other software
installed and configured when starting from a bare computer.

I have not yet enabled PF and its settings, though.

Installing FreeBSD on 4 old Acer laptops made them usable for our club Field Day ops again.
They were horribly slow and really unusable when trying to use Win10 on them.

I have had no luck, so far, with WINE, but we have not needed that.....yet.

Re: Fldigi Freezing

Had the same on Raspi 5. ? ?It uses Wayland as graphic driver which does not work with fldigi properly (Eats up all CPU power). ?I switched back to the old x11 driver. Perhaps its the same on your system. After that change of config the problem vanished.

Re: Fldigi Freezing

I have trouble with the RPI4 and FLDIGI under the default Wayland.
CPU usage is extremely high and FLDIGI is very sluggish.
I switched to the Openbox window manager and it works properly.

Re: Fldigi Freezing

Same problem here with fldigi on rpi raspian.? fldigi is freezing, not the rpi operating system.? Initially was running on an rpi 3b so tried an rpi4 and had the same problem.? Tried all the local suggestions including ferrites on all leads, aluminum case, but I've had it freeze even when i haven't been transmitting.? I don't recall seeing this problem when I was running fldigi on a pc with ubuntu.? Just installed ubuntu on the rpi4 and haven't had a freeze yet, but with an intermittent problem like this it could be a while before I know if the operating system makes a difference.
