Re: Linux Mint works on one user account but crashes on another on Linux Mint 22.1

One suggestion to troubleshoot this crash would be to use the 'strace' command on fldigi. This will help pinpoint where the failure is occurring.

If you're launching fldigi from the terminal, you could use a command like this:

```
strace -ff -tt -o strace fldigi 1>stdout 2>stderr
```

It's best to run this in a fresh directory, as it will create a 'strace.<pid>' file for each process forked by fldigi. It will also collect the stdout and stderr output from fldigi.

If you could share the generated strace files, they might provide clues about the cause of the issue.

Re: Running Linux on a Chromebook

Hi, Roberto,
software packages from repositories are usually quite out of date. If you need to support CAT of newer or less popular model of trx, often it helps to build the software from source.

It suggests that maybe an audio switch or amplitude setting for the
Tx/Data modulation is somehow turned off or to zero. Could also be the
old left/right channel swap problem.

I'm not sure about the detail of the FT-991A modulation source
configuration. I suppose I could download the manual and have a look,
but lack of familiarity means that you might spot something more easily
than I will.

Re: No RF output on digital suddenly

Chances are, you are sending audio to the wrong USB speaker port.? This is digital and we are sending SSB.? If the radio isn't getting audio input, then you get zero power out - that is the nature of SSB.? You did some switching around with speakers, your driver?names may have changed.??

sBitx v3 has low power on fldigi and wsjtx #fldigi #hamlib #raspberrypi #wsjtx

I have an sBitx v3 that has essentially not modified, other that a dist-upgrade (It runs some Raspberry pi version of Debian). The full power is 25 W, and when I set the PA drive to 63%, I get 10 W out on CW, as expected. However, when I run either fldigi or wsjtx with the drive set the same, I get 1.3 W. On both, the power sliders are set all the way up to max (0 db). Both are using hamlib. The only thing I could think of checking is the ALSA mixer, but no numbers are small enough to account for a loss of a factor of 8 in power. Any ideas on what else I could check?

Re: FLDIGI 4.2.06 / RumLogNG v 5.19.1/OSX / MacOS 15.3

Tim, maybe I am not understanding the issue here. The very first thing you need to do is to find an RTTY signal and make it visible in your fldigi waterfall / passband. And you should be hearing it through your speaker as well.
?
If you cannot see the RTTY signal on the fldigi waterfall, then you will not decode anything.
?
I'll refer you again to the two screen shots from a couple days ago, where I posted one in "DATA" mode and one in "FSK" mode. The other guy's signal is visible with two yellow stripes with a blue background.
?
I am also a little confused about what fldigi is showing for your system, being in LSB mode and a 50 Hz bandwidth setting. My biggest convern here is that if the radio is actually receiving LSB mode then it might be necessary to "invert" fldigi decoding.... but you said that you are decoding fine in the DATA mode, so as I said, it is confusing.

Re: FLDIGI 4.2.06 / RumLogNG v 5.19.1/OSX / MacOS 15.3

Hi Dave,
?
I am sorry I captured the wrong picture on the FSK one I kept adjusting the S/N number from dark red to light yellow and could only decode noise. ?I did widened the filter and that did not change much. ?The immediate ?time I moved to Data it decoded the RTTY. ?Now in FSK my radio could decoded the RTTY but FlDigi could not. ?
?
What else can I test to get this worked out. ?
?
Tim?

Re: FLDIGI 4.2.06 / RumLogNG v 5.19.1/OSX / MacOS 15.3

Hi Tim,
In your second screen shot I do not see any signal in the passband, but instead, I see a LOT of noise. Earlier you said
?
> ?I opened the filter on the FSK to get more of the siglanl into FLDigi
?
I am not sure how you did this, but from this shot, there is no signal there - only noise. With no signal to decode, that is, the pair of tracks like we see in your first shot, those centered at 700 Hz, 1500 Hz, and 2500 Hz (approx) there is nothing for FLDigi to do.
?
Take another look at my earlier post with the two screenshots of the waterfall. You can see that there are signals in both pictures, with the biggest difference being the width of the passband, and because of that, more signals to decode in that first one.
?
I think this is what you will need to do, and with your radio (not fldigi) so that there is a signal to decode. Once you have a RTTY signal transmitting so that he is in your receive passband, and it shows up in the fldigi waterfall, then fldigi will be able to lock onto it and decode it.
?
Thanks for the full screen shots - it is very helpful to try to figure things out and to understand what is going on there. "More information is better"
?

Dave

Hi Ed et al,

I've seen an issue where audio devices "go away" and one is left with only the dummy output. One can check in the audio mixer to see if this is the case. On various internet posts, this issue is claimed to be something between the kernel and the sound system.

If this is what you're seeing, I've put a workaround into AHRL. Go to the Workarounds menu and select "Fix Sound". OR ... if you like the command line, try this: sudo /usr/local/bin/fix_sound

Note that the above is an AHRL specific workaround.

Good luck and 73,

Re: FLDIGI 4.2.06 / RumLogNG v 5.19.1/OSX / MacOS 15.3

Usually what happens when people try to do this, is that there is no one transmitting in the new passband when switching to FSK mode. And if there is, the FLDigi 'red lines' tuning indicator is not lined up with the signal being received. Here are a couple of screen shots when using the DATA-U mode to receive, and then the FSK mode to receive. Notice that I moved the FLDigi tuning lines up to 2100-2200 Hz which is where the audio is coming through (actually 2170 according to the digital display just below the waterfall).
