It's easy to overcome this, but a little tricky to describe. Where you want the 90 degree bend just click twice (NB: click twice is does not mean double-click) and set off in the direction you want the track to take. When you click at the next node the track will be laid bent through 90 degrees as required. Note that in general this is not good practice, but sometimes it needs to be done.
