The day is really a fun day, but we start up there early. Most of what we do is assist in the run coordination.

The Where is everyone and we need this somewhere is what happens. But it isn’t a boring day.

Things are mostly over by 1 pm or 2. It’s normally cooler up there, but maybe not so this year.

We need all the help that we can get, and it would be good if we get a surplus of people.

There is always the option of riding up and back with someone else.

It is a fun time for all. One thing is paramount. The 13 mile mark is pivotal. This is where the 13 mile runners finish and the marathon runners continue on for 26.5 miles total. Keeping track of who stops at the 13 mile finish and, who continues on is important. Some marathon runners can't continue and will stop at this point. They need to listed as stopping at the 13 mile point and not continuing. Beyond the 13 mile mark each station needs to look at the runners for fatigue, limping or running exceptionally slow. In the past we've had a few runners collapse in between stations. That's why reporting the runners numbers passing your station is very important. Help needs to get to the runners as quickly as possible, This run is not for the faint of heart. I did the communications at several points for the run about 10 or more times in the past. Some new marathon runners thought they could handle it and ended up stopping at the 13 mile mark. It happens. Also make sure you carry plenty of extra water. Some stations are not well equipped and with the hams having the water and possibly extra paper cups really helps. This has been improving. Usually every station will have two flavors of gator aid and water to dispense to the runners as they pass by. The runners will throw the cups down a shorty distance past the station. Many station operators have kids with them and they pick up the used cups. You get to meet new people at the stations and after the race many runners will thank you for being there. I'd love to help once again but, The only station I;d feel comfortable at is the 13 mile point.
