开云体育Great idea. This will encourage those who have a Tech license to utilize it's full potential or, possibly upgrade. Being local, a vertical would be more advantageous but, my 3 elem yagi would work. Just a little over kill, hi, hi. 73 Dan N0FQN? On 8/16/2021 10:56 AM, Jim English,

Just what I need.? Another reason to purchase an HF rig.? :)? I'm game for it though.? The biggest struggle may be interest.?
Do we have a user base to support it?? I would think the Portland
user base was much larger but maybe we can pull a bit from
outlying areas?

The Local 10m Tech net
Hello Everybody, When I was living in the Portland?area about 10 years ago one of the local hams held a weekly net on 10 meters.? The main purpose was to encourage the local hams that held a Tech license to get on HF.? Did you know that it is legal for a person holding a Technician class license to operate on 10 meters using? the SSB phone mode between 28.3MHz and 28.5MHz?? The discussions were mainly technical?related to some aspect of the ham radio hobby; mostly with information for persons?wanting to upgrade to General.? I was a regular participant and even though I didn't need to upgrade I found the discussions quite interesting.?? I was wondering if there is any interest in starting a similar net here in the Klamath Falls area?? I was thinking 8 pm local time on Mondays but am open to suggestions. 73, Jim WO7V |

Crater Rim Run (K-BAR-A Trailer) Repeater on the air.
For those of you planning on volunteering for this year's Crater Lake Rim Run event it is time to program and test your radios.? For the event the trailer will be located at the turn-around atop the cloud cap lookout.? From cloud cap the trailer repeater will cover most of the park.? So to get ready for the event please program your radios.? The trailer repeater operates on VHF at 147.32MHz with a 118.8Hz tone.? For the next two weeks until the early morning of August 14th it will be turned on and activated at it's temporary location at my QTH on Wiard Street.? Thus most anyone in the local area should be able to use it to test the programming on their radios.? Currently it has a very short squelch tail so with my cheap Baofeng I could not tell if I could hit it but it was working.? I will try to lengthen the squelch tail a bit. We will also have an APRS digipeater running in the trailer so feel free to bring your APRS tracker.? In fact, I would encourage it. Lastly, this reflector only has about 40 members so far.? Thus, this announcement may not get to everyone so if you know anyone that should have received?it please forward this information and encourage them to actually join this reflector by sending me an email to WO7V@... and I will send them an invite to join. 73, Jim WO7V |

Hello Everybody, Pandemic got you down?? Are you all itching for that good old ham radio swap meet?? ?Well it looks like the Mid Valley Amateur Radio club in Salem has decided to go ahead with Swaptoberfest this fall on Saturday, October?16 in Rickreall Oregon.? Rickreall is just a few miles west of Salem on highway 22.? I expect it to be very crowded this fall because of the pent up?demand from the pandemic.? As with any other ham activity, if you get there on time you will be late! 73, Jim WO7V |

Re: RIM RUN
Daniel J Mattingly, N0FQN
开云体育It is a fun time for all. One thing is paramount. The 13 mile mark is pivotal. This is where the 13 mile runners finish and the marathon runners continue on for 26.5 miles total. Keeping track of who stops at the 13 mile finish and, who continues on is important. Some marathon runners can't continue and will stop at this point. They need to listed as stopping at the 13 mile point and not continuing. Beyond the 13 mile mark each station needs to look at the runners for fatigue, limping or running exceptionally slow. In the past we've had a few runners collapse in between stations. That's why reporting the runners numbers passing your station is very important. Help needs to get to the runners as quickly as possible, This run is not for the faint of heart. I did the communications at several points for the run about 10 or more times in the past. Some new marathon runners thought they could handle it and ended up stopping at the 13 mile mark. It happens. Also make sure you carry plenty of extra water. Some stations are not well equipped and with the hams having the water and possibly extra paper cups really helps. This has been improving. Usually every station will have two flavors of gator aid and water to dispense to the runners as they pass by. The runners will throw the cups down a shorty distance past the station. Many station operators have kids with them and they pick up the used cups. You get to meet new people at the stations and after the race many runners will thank you for being there. I'd love to help once again but, The only station I;d feel comfortable at is the 13 mile point. 73 Dan N0FQN On 7/11/2021 6:18 AM, Al White, W7KHD

开云体育The day is really a fun day, but we start up there early. Most of what we do is assist in the run coordination. The Where is everyone and we need this somewhere is what happens. But it isn’t a boring day. Things are mostly over by 1 pm or 2. It’s normally cooler up there, but maybe not so this year. We need all the help that we can get, and it would be good if we get a surplus of people. There is always the option of riding up and back with someone else. Al, W7KHD ? ? W7VW Field Day 2021
The W7VW field day event for the second year was held just outside the Klamath Falls airport.? Although very dusty and hot the site offers the space to erect several antennas and the proximity?to the city.? It turns out that this year was actually the best.? ?Band conditions were a little improved over last year but the thing that made the effort outstanding was the participation.? Except for the GOTA station and the single QSO that Al completed on 2 meters all the Q's were done by either CW or Digital using FT8.? And for the first year since I have been involved the club trailer was never shut down.? At about 10 pm on Saturday the "night shift" took over and ran the unit until morning.? This effort shows up in the total score of 2472 which is much improved over last year of about 1600. Unfortunately, we failed?to keep a sign-in sheet for all of the participants that helped with the setup, teardown, and operation.? The following list is from memory so if I have failed to mention someone please let me know and, after offering a full apology for missing you as a participant, I will sign you up to keep track of the list of participants next year.? Regardless of whether you are on the list or not, I would like to thank everyone who participated and helped out with the operation. Field
Day Operators and participants: Lisa Johnson K7NSP Al White W7KHD Bob Edgar AG7FR Jeff Eastburn KJ7IRV Dale Severns KJ7RGW Jim English WO7V David Bell N2RSN Chuck Huckabay KJ7KWR Dennie Dunkinsun WA7YPR Jimmy Huckabay KC7WJ Charles Boening K7AKT Kevin Joo KJ7LLE Eric Munson W6HIH Sydney Fowler KB7GAB Brandon Fowler AE7BF For the second year in a row Lisa Johnson, K7NSP was our safety officer.?? With the addition of a pair of "egg beater" antennas for the club trailer, this year we tried very hard to complete at least one QSO by using a Satellite.? ?After a lot of work, we were able to hear a couple but were never able to actually complete a QSO.? Oh well, we learned a lot and there is always next year.? Some of the notable QSOs were some DX in New Zealand.? We also worked at the ARRL headquarters station W1AW on CW.? Another thing different this year is that there were actually 2 active operating positions in the club trailer.? The night shift composed of Jeff, Bobby, and Dale was running FT8 on both of them on 80M and 40M.? In the morning we switched to run on 40m and 20m.? As much as you might think of 20m as being the money band most of the Q's were completed on 40m. The FT8 mode is very easy to operate, but you have to pay attention to what is going on.? That being said it is entirely possible for a single operator to run two radios on two bands simultaneously.? In fact, this is exactly what was being done for the last 12 hours of the operation. The setup on Friday was a little disappointing due to the poor performance of the R-7 antenna on the tower.? Early Saturday morning it was determined that the coax feed on the tower was bad.? ?We will be replacing both of these in the near future.? So for those of you that would like to see a little more detail the following is the summary sheet by the field day entry submission to the ARRL. Summary:

Field day egg beater antennas
Hello everybody, Field day this year will be held at the Klamath?Falls Airport in?the?same location as last year.? Setup is late afternoon on?this Friday June 25th.? Operations begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday June 26th and extend to Sunday June 27th.? A pot luck picnic will follow and everybody is welcome.? We are in need of CW operators but any ham regardless of class that wants to put their butt in a chair and operate any mode is welcome.?? In preparation for field day we decided to add some satellite antennas to the club trailer.? We purchased a set from M squared and mounted them on the tower.? The bicycle chain and sprockets?keep them in the proper orientation?regardless of whether the tower is up or down.? Here are a couple pics: BTW,? here are the set of frequencies currently loaded into the FT-8800 for working satellites:
