Re: #KBARAhamfest October 2023 Ham Convention in Klamath Falls
#KBARAhamfest
Thank You Jon!
?? This is a great idea!? Between ARRL templates and guidelines, your prior experience with conventions, my experience with the annual Rock, Gem, and Mineral show at the Fair Grounds, outstanding connections with Discover Klamath and the possibility of a Tourism Grant, and the generous contributions of the many knowledgeable members, we should be able to put on a great event!? (Sorry 'bout the run-on sentence...) ?? I look forward to the Zoom meeting on Friday!

Greetings All,
I am hosting a brainstorm and update Zoom meeting on Friday, April 29th at 7PM
My assumption is that if we do this, the intent is to make it an annual thing. If so, then we need to start planning each event at least 18 months in advance. Obviously we are on that schedule now for the first event. What may not be obvious is that we will need to start planning for the 2024 event before we hold the 2023 event, in April 2023.
As I have mentioned before, Tammy and I have done a fair amount of event planning over the years. I have been involved in several moderately sized annual conventions in department planning and as an executive. It is my experience that planning for an October event should begin in April the year before the event. This establishes a reasonable working pace that allows for training new folks in jobs and finding creative solutions to problems that inevitably crop up, and is much less likely to burn folks out. September and October will be crazy, there is just no getting around that.?
My intention is to make this a Gotta-Be-There annual event. The last thing I want to see is a half-assed attempt at a convention. We can always scale up from where we start, but we need to cover the basics to be considered a convention. We can be a major player in the space. It just takes commitment.
Currently I am working on a notes page based on my copious margin notes in the ARRL Convention Organizers Guide. If you don't already have a copy, download it from??this will be a good time to discuss areas that you have questions on. I am hoping to have something written up by Friday for dissemination.
As always, if you have any questions let me know.

Greetings Cyndi,
Good news for the Section. Kevin dropped out of the running advancing the selection to Unopposed. I know David wants to move the section forward and I am looking forward to continuing working with him and the rest of the Section. 73, ~Jon KK6GXG

?Hello KBARA members!
Attached is the sample item and price sheet for the various KBARA logo engraved items available to us from the local vendor.
As a head's up, the club will be purchasing five of the example number 7 name tags, with the red background and white lettering, to distribute to whoever is the current club officer for president, 1st and 2nd vice president, secretary, and treasurer. These will just have "KBARA" and then the specific title, so they can be passed to each successor for those?positions. So you are encouraged to order one of that particular style and color combination, as that will help reduce?the total cost for all and will offer some uniformity for club members!
To place your order for any of the items on the attached sheet, please reply to this email with the following information-
-Item # from list -specific color and/or options desired -exact description of what you¡¯d like engraved -total pieces desired
Let me know if you have any questions,?and thank you for your?continued support of our club! Erik KD6RRR

Tech Net Tonight 8:00 PM beeethere!
Hello Everybody, Tonight is the ?Monday Tech net at 8:00 PM local time 28.375MHz (0300Z).? Open to all licensed amateur radio operators.? Especially ones holding a Technician class or lower license.? Yes, even if you are one of the RARE persons that still hold a Novice class license you are allowed to operate SSB on the Tech Net frequency.? Tonight's topic will be Satellite communications.
Also as a head's up on the calendar is the club picnic scheduled for Saturday, July 16 from 11:00 am until 4:00 PM to be held at Wiard Park under the canopy.? In the past to rev up some interest we have been known to schedule a hidden transmitter Fox Hunt in the morning prior to the picnic.? Also on July 16th, Ruth, K7RFO will be honored by members of the Oregon Emergency Net (OEN) to be held at Moore Park starting at 2pm.? So there you have it, you can feed your face at Wiard park then drive over to Moore park and say hello to Ruth.

Erik, I haven't been able to be there on Wednesday meeting times as it's on a church night. However, I do want to get a membership check to you and keep supporting KBARA. Should I mail it to you?
Also, I would like to get two t-shirts and pay costs plus. What is the cost to the club for these shirts?

We used to have a hamfest in Klamath Falls in the 90's. First,
they used OIT student hall but, later went to a church hall. It
lasted for 2 or 3 years. The reason it ceased, from my
understanding was, no one wanted to work the doors, etc. Things
maybe different today.

Erik brought it up at the club meeting and there was unanimous interest in us hosting an event. Since I can't seem to keep my mouth shut, I am the Chair for the event committee.
So what is a hamfest? Think convention; exhibitors, vendors, swap meet, panel discussions, presentations, workshops, VE sessions, all occupying?the fairgrounds for a weekend with people (hopefully) attending from 4 or more states. SEAPAC? is an example of an ARRL partner conference.?
We are looking at doing this October (6)7-8(9) 2023 (potentially the 6th for setup and 9th for teardown) If it goes even just reasonably well, it could become?an annual event for us. 73, ~Jon KK6GXG
Hi Jon, I am still out here. Just been so blessed with booming business that I have not had a lot of time for ham learning. So what is this all about in short? The only night I would have free would be Thur. or Fri. next week. As untech as I am I don't even know what a hashtag is?. Gina KJ7YWK?

I spent some time going over the document from the ARRL on setting up a hamfest/convention and I think we are ready to hit the ground running. Even better, my wife, Tammy, who has done event planner/coordinator gigs in the past is also on board. We have done events together and they have all gone very smoothly.
That being said, I would like to do a Zoom call in the evening some time next week with everyone to discuss some planning elements to make sure everyone is on board before moving forward.?
If you are interested in participating please reply to this thread and let me know when is a good time and day for the Zoom call. I will post the final date and time as a reply to this thread on Monday.
I set the hashtag #KBARAhamfest to only send replies to people who FOLLOW the hashtag so we don't swamp anyone's mailbox.
