Wind exposure

I'm not sure it makes much difference given the Hexbeam design (I have an NA4RR), but since I have a 10 element VHF/UHF beam mounted on the same mast below the Hexbeam, I point mine into the wind to avoid high wind loading on the VHF/UHF beam.? It seems to work well for the hex. Mine has been up for 3 years and has survived 60+ MPH winds with no issues. Hope this helps 73 Randy KA0AZS On 12/8/2024 09:44, Andrea via groups.io wrote:

I agree. I'v e had an SP7IDX hexbeam up for 4 years with no problems. On Sun, Dec 8, 2024, 9:52 AM J.D. Barron via <jeter.d.barron=[email protected]> wrote:

In my case the bolts at the rotator haven't held their place so the antenna has turned on its own for several months. By itself it turned the driven side of the antenna away from the wind. That fact may or may not help answer your question. On Sun, Dec 8, 2024 at 8:57?AM kh6dc via <kh6dc=[email protected]> wrote:

I know that the hexbeam is almost symmetric, but maybe there is a heading to stress less the connection between the wires and the central post. 73 Andrea iz2lsc Il giorno dom 8 dic 2024 alle ore 21:28 Gus via groups.io <gustafssonleo078@...> ha scritto:

I think either towards the wind or away from the wind would be best as stresses would be along the wires rather than battering them side to side. Having said that I just lost my 20m element in the tremendous nor-wester we has a couple of nights ago. as the ring terminator broke off under the nut at the center pole end. I will replace them with heavier duty ones.

Hi Andrew,
I have the same opinion. Even if the hexbeam is almost symmetrical, I should prefer the wind hitting the antenna parallelly to the wires connecting to the central post. 73 Andrea, iz2lsc Il giorno lun 9 dic 2024 alle ore 20:08 andrew via groups.io <ZL3AWB@...> ha scritto:
