Setup

Gary and Julie Burow

I have had Logger 32 running under Windoze 2000 successfully. Unfortunately
I had a hard drive problem and had to re-install everything. Now, Setup
tells me that some of my System files are out of date and offers to update
them if I select yes then shut down and restart. when I run Setup again, it
gives the same result. Am I doing something wrong?

Gary

I have a couple of questions here:-

1) Logger32 was (and is) being developed on a Win98SE system so the included
files would be from that era. Now what its the announcement actually
saying/ Is it the the files you have already are more up to date that those
provided or is it the other way round? If your files are more current, then
keep them.

2) You say that when you run setup AGAIN .... Why do this? Is Logger32 not
running for you - and if so, what is the problem?

Hi Gary,

W2000 does not allow you to overwrite DLL's (thank god) so it will replace
the overwritten systemfiles with the original ones and nothing changes...
maybe you should try to install w2k service pack first.
In general I will not install software that tries to overwrite system DLL's
with W95/W98 trash.
It is not a recommendation that L32 is developed for W98... there are better
Windows versions around today.
Don't think that most HAM's stick with W98.... most visitors to my web pages
use XP already.

Geoff, as per the original e-mail, the setup program said that some of my
system files needed to be updated and offered to do it for me if I shut down
the computer and re-started.

I HAD to try again to see what had happened. As it turnes out, nothing
happened and I was no furthed down the track.

Fortunately, I had an image of an earlier version of a Win 2000 installation
and reverted back to that and it worked so obviously something had gone
wrong with the system.
Tnx fer reply

Arend,

Logger32 does NOT overwrite DLL or whatever unless the installer allows it
to do so. For every file that Logger32 finds it ALWAYS asks the question.

As for most amateurs using Xp - well just try writing something that is Xp
specific and see how many grumbles you get! No - I'm afraid I cannot agree
with you on this particular point.

Thanks Arend,

It appears that something went wrong with the system. I had a backup image
and when I restored that, Logger went on okay.

Won't say anymore re Win 98, but does Microsoft still support it?
