The QSLMSG field is QSL MESSAGE not qsl manager. The QSL_VIA field

printed on the qsl card such as "Thanks for the XXX contest qso".

Re: Setup

Gary and Julie Burow

Geoff, as per the original e-mail, the setup program said that some of my
system files needed to be updated and offered to do it for me if I shut down
the computer and re-started.

I HAD to try again to see what had happened. As it turnes out, nothing
happened and I was no furthed down the track.

Fortunately, I had an image of an earlier version of a Win 2000 installation
and reverted back to that and it worked so obviously something had gone
wrong with the system.
Tnx fer reply

I have a couple of questions here:-

1) Logger32 was (and is) being developed on a Win98SE system so the included
files would be from that era. Now what its the announcement actually
saying/ Is it the the files you have already are more up to date that those
provided or is it the other way round? If your files are more current, then
keep them.

2) You say that when you run setup AGAIN .... Why do this? Is Logger32 not
running for you - and if so, what is the problem?

I have had Logger 32 running under Windoze 2000 successfully.
Unfortunately
I had a hard drive problem and had to re-install everything. Now, Setup
tells me that some of my System files are out of date and offers to update
them if I select yes then shut down and restart. when I run Setup again,
it
gives the same result. Am I doing something wrong?

I think that the "Copy of xxxxxxxxx" files are not part of the Logger32 "original" distribution but created by a copy&paste action, maybe to have another copy.
Are you sure that the "Copy of ...." files are identical to the corresponding files? I think they are not updated...so they could be an old copy of your logbook.

I think because they can be recalculated from the menu (Tools/Maintenance/Recalc stats)

Re: Setup

Hi Gary,

W2000 does not allow you to overwrite DLL's (thank god) so it will replace
the overwritten systemfiles with the original ones and nothing changes...
maybe you should try to install w2k service pack first.
In general I will not install software that tries to overwrite system DLL's
with W95/W98 trash.
It is not a recommendation that L32 is developed for W98... there are better
Windows versions around today.
Don't think that most HAM's stick with W98.... most visitors to my web pages
use XP already.

US Counties - minor bug and QSL sent/received defaults

Hello all,

1), There is a minor bug when entering US county, nothing major, but needs
to be addressed at some stage. Pick two US callsigns in the logbook. In the
"STATE" field change/add state for the first one (let's say TN), then
change/add state for the second callsign (let's say CA). Then move back to
the first callsign and enter county "Hamilton" in the "COUNTY" field (valid
county for TN). I got a message "HAMILTON does not appear to be a valid
county in CA". The county is entered then with no problem. For some reason
when entering a county Logger32, when checking the county, ignores the state
in the "STATE" field for the callsign and looks at the last entered state,
hence the message. Hope I explained the issue.

2). It would be nice to have "QSL sent" and "QSL received" fields to be
populated automatically with "N" when QSO is entered. Currently they are
blank and to change them to "N" I have to either manually enter "N" or use
"Edit QSL info".

I don't know that you are missing anything. What I'm interested in is the
list of files you are recording which Logger32 doesn't. Now I know I should
be in a position to do this comparison, but the truth is that I have so many
files in my logger directory from trying to sort out other peoples problems
that I don't have a "virgin" set either in the main directory or in the
zipped files. The only way I could get back to this is to clear everything
out and do a re-install - and I really don't want to do that at the moment!!
So if you could tell me what the differences are please, I
can then tell you if you need to save them of not. If Bob has forgotten to
include some essential files, then I would like to know and the matter can
be corrected.

The file for the Logbook contains 3 files. Is the ISL not needed? The file
for the User Files contains 30 files. For a total of 33 files. When I copy
all the ISD, ISL, ISM, INI and DB files, I get a total of 52 files. Maybe it

Yes and yes, I agree, but that was not the question I believe.

The question was about populating these fields for QSOs ALREADY IN THE LOG
and which do not have these fields populated.

I do not use the CD, but I sometimes operate battery in the yard with my
FT-817 and the laptop on battery too, without an internet connection. It
would be nice to be able to populate these fields after the fact, when I
am
back in the shack and the computer is hooked up to the network and the

I do not use QRZ CD but do use QRZ.com (DSL connection) and most of these
populate upon entry of a callsign into the Logbook entry window, you will
need to check your options for the QRZ CD.

Re: Request for addition

John,

I don't think I'm quite in tune with you on this one John. What comments
are you wanting to add during an ADI load?. Are you referring to the
Logger16 NOTES? If so, there is a utility for converting Logger16 "notes"
to Logger32 format called ConvertNotesToLogger32.exe. Now my memory is a
little lacking on this one but I think this did not get sent out with the
original set of files - but I believe you can grab a copy from the reflector
files area if you need it.

Does this cover you question? If not, try me again.

Hello Geoff... to be honest, I have imported several logs and until you

'contest logs'. Thank you for pointing this out... However, if this is
not another thing that I have missed, my request for adding comments

Have you actually looked at the ADI import? If you set about loading an
ADI

that

Dear team.. A suggestion for an addition if Bob likes it.....

When importing a log, Logger 16 gave you the option to 'add a
comment' -
I
have noticed that logger32 does not have this (if it does, it never
asks
me when I import).... Would it be possible to have this feature
reinstated
and additionally, where an imported ADIF log does not have a
'contest_id'
could logger32 ask you for this info. (I have recently
imported
several contest logs from Writelog and would have liked to either put
comments in the 'comments' column or put in the contest_id info... or
both)

Re: Setup

Geoff Anderson

I have a couple of questions here:-

1) Logger32 was (and is) being developed on a Win98SE system so the included
files would be from that era. Now what its the announcement actually
saying/ Is it the the files you have already are more up to date that those
provided or is it the other way round? If your files are more current, then
keep them.

2) You say that when you run setup AGAIN .... Why do this? Is Logger32 not
running for you - and if so, what is the problem?

Unfortunately

tells me that some of my System files are out of date and offers to update
them if I select yes then shut down and restart. when I run Setup again,
it
gives the same result. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Automatic filling ?

Hal Miller

Didier,

If the field such as Address, State, County, Grid Square and a few others do
populate if the info is there from previous QSOs.

I do not use QRZ CD but do use QRZ.com (DSL connection) and most of these
populate upon entry of a callsign into the Logbook entry window, you will
need to check your options for the QRZ CD.

Hi Didier,

Well, I must be wrong, but I understood the original question as how to
automatically populate the fields if the contact was in the log already.
Sorry for causing the confusion. I personnally do not use QRZ lookup, as
it
doesn't give the name in 90% of the callsigns (just the first letter of
the
name), I don't really care about street address and not all the callsigns
are in QRZ database.

Re: Request for addition

Hello Geoff... to be honest, I have imported several logs and until you
mentioned it, I never even noticed the little box that you click on for
'contest logs'. Thank you for pointing this out... However, if this is
not another thing that I have missed, my request for adding comments still
stands..

Have you actually looked at the ADI import? If you set about loading an
ADI
import, after you have defined the file to use, you will see a window

not only shows the actual entry BUT allows you to import CONTEST logs...
It
is the lowest of the three options. When you select this option a further
window opens allowing you to enter the contest name ( which gets recorded

Re: LOGGER32 FILE BACKUP

Mecozzi, Al

Geoff:

When I use the Zip Logbook and Zip User Files icons I get two zip files. The file for the Logbook contains 3 files. Is the ISL not needed? The file for the User Files contains 30 files. For a total of 33 files. When I copy all the ISD, ISL, ISM, INI and DB files, I get a total of 52 files. Maybe it is not necessary to copy the COPY OF XXXX.ISL, etc. files. What am I missing here?

Re: Mapping data path to other pc

AH - this is something I have not tried before but having now had a go I
find that it works ok - for me at least! Running Logger32 on one machine
and mapping a drive from the other across my network which contains a valid

I have a number of PC's, and would like to use one particular PC for the
log. However, it is not the PC in the shack. I can map a drive letter to
a
different PC on my network, but Logger seems to choke. Is it not
possible?

Re: MixW to LOGGER32 Interface

Geoff Anderson

Until MixW places a band field a lot of logging programs
will not get proper input..
No - not so. Logger32 does accept Mix2.xx files ( just tried it). The
initial release version of Logger32 you have may not do so BUT the version I
have under test certainly DOES accept Mix ADI files.. (even though the ADI
file does not have a BAND field).

A quote from the list of changes made - recently put onto this reflector
stated:-

ADIF import - now includes a calculator to determine the BAND from the
frequency if the BAND field does not exist in the imported file.

So - it's just a question of waiting for the next beta release.
