Winter Field Day Results, Try 2
Greetings, Hambuds!
?
?? Sorry, I hit the wrong button and my message was sent out very prematurely.
?
?? A big THANK YOU to all those who showed up and operated and/or helped operate and log,? The names I have are John, KE5RS; Marc, WA6HBR; Matt, K5TMT; and Steve, KO5HX; and myself.? If I missed anyone, my apologies and thank you.
?
? Thanks to all those who came by the pavilion and visited!? It was good to see everyone.? Also, thanks for the drinks and doughnuts!? Finally, thanks to all who helped set up stations and antennas as well as take them down.
?
?? I learned that the winter clothes I have for hiking and outdoor activities, including camping next to a nice warm fire, did not keep me warm this past weekend.? I need to upgrade my winter wardrobe.? At least we did not have snow on the ground.
?
?? For those interested in the scores, we made 148 CW contacts, 102 Phone (SSB) contacts and zero (0) digital contacts.? We met a few of the objectives/multipliers. Since I am not a contester, I didn't push them.? I enjoyed visiting and helping others, and yes, make some contacts. By my calculations, our final score is 2786.?
?
Thanks again, and have a good week!
73,
Tim L.

P.S. I hope I did not offend anyone by walking away from your interesting conversations. I was cold, and needed to move around to try and get warm.? It didn't help much.? Hopefully we can talk again with a better (warmer) environment.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI had a great time.?? I always enjoy FD and having Matt K5TMT help me and teach me while doing CW was wonderful.??? In the future I would like to operate just CW. Getting setup was a lot easier than previous tries.? For me it has always been antenna setup that has taken the longest.??? Mainly getting the EFHW up into a tree.? After thinking about it and consulting with a couple of other hams I finally came up with a way to do it.?? It still requires two people though :-) And it was definitely cold out there even at 55 degrees.?? Looking forward to the end of June. 73, Marc WA6HBR On 1/27/25 19:01, Tim N5TML via

I'll second Marc's sentiment. Tim, you were a great host and I'm glad I got out there on Sunday. The setup was effective. It was the first FD that I operated with a bit Yagi or delta loop. The EFHW and buddy pole?were much closer to my improvised setups,? The signal reach was great and getting through pile-ups wasn't any more of a problem than I remember. For an ex-scoutmaster I'm disappointed I didn't gear up better for the weather.? I admire John for operating CW with gloves on and getting it done! I look forward to playing more of a role next year and will practice up my CW proficiency. Steven KO5HX |
