Subject: [hambuds] Home-brew Avanti 2m/70cm Astroplane Antenna (Patented 11 Metre design adjusted fo VHF/UHF
?
[Edited Message Follows]
The solution that Martino found was to cut the physical length of the element about 1/8 wavelength. The
result was the antenna would have two lower sections of 1/4 wavelength, and an upper 1/8, as shown in
Figure 1 right , reaching a height of 6.82 meters. With the shortening, due to the shape of the antenna and
the type of material used, the Astroplane would perfectly meet the standard maximum height of 20 feet
To shorten the antenna Martino employed a well known system called top loading, see Figures 2 and 3. The
upper load electrically lengthened the allowed upper element of 1/8 wavelength to 1/4 wavelength. This
means that although this element physically measured 1/8 wavelength, because of the top loading, the
upper section had a electrical equivalent of 1/4 wavelength. How much longer? It depends on the
dimensions of the top load. In this case the load elements of the crossed Capacitor Hat are constructed of
1/8 wavelength radials, and resulted in the 1/8 element achieving an electrical length of 1/4 wave.

Home-brew Avanti 2m/70cm Astroplane Antenna (Patented 11 Metre design adjusted fo VHF/UHF
Buds, this antenna s what I am testing/using. I have built several of these using copper tubing, and copper strap for the skirt. For practice, I used copper clad stainless steel welding rods, very strong. The insulators and other metal hardware is from a coffee can. These can be built for ANY frequency band. (Not practical for HF) This goofy looking antenna here is 15' tall. I build these (and other antennas/accessories, etc also, and cheap! If you would like one, hit me up. 73, The Zween (KF5CCN)Original concept:

Re: George "Bill" Wehling, N5VE - SK
Good evening hambuds, Yes please remember Julie, she is a shining star. Bill has not been very active since the ice storm that took his antennas down in the ice storm at the first of the year. He asked for help, but did not get any which I personally feel guilty of. Bill kind of slowly disappeared after Todd N5RVD died, and a lot of the hambuds suffered from that experience as well. Rest in piece Bill, N5VE, we will miss you

2024 ARRL Field Day Interest
Greetings, Hambuds!
?? Hope everyone is doing well.
?? ARRL Field Day is coming the fourth full weekend in June, this year the 22-23. Start making plans to attend and operate and help now.
?? One of us, Marc, has mentioned a new park to operate from, Lake Creek Park near downtown Round Rock.? I have looked briefly at the web site, and it may or may not be cheaper than being at the Southwest Regional Park where we have been in the past.? I would like for someone who can read and understand legalese to state the true cost for reserving the pavilliian for two days, and whether we can get the deposit back.?
?? So, everyone, take a few hours and walk around Lake Creek Park and see if you would to prefer to try using this park for Field Day.? Perhaps I should mention that Marc likes lots of trees to hang his antenna(s).? I don't know whether the park would let us hang antennas from the trees, so that needs to be investigated.? Personally, I like lots of clear space to set up my antenna(s), like a football/soccer field.
?? We need to make reservations soon, so feedback is needed quickly.? So, get out and enjoy the nice weather and look at the parks and start planning to join us now.
