I agree 100%, but a distinction needs to be made between "personal
grudge matches" and a spirited debate.
I too abhor the postings where each side simply calls the other names,
questions their parentage and generally reviles them any way they can.
That is not the same as questioning the other's knowledge and
application of theory, conclusions drawn or recommendations made.
Those things SHOULD be questioned when appropriate and it often leads
to a heated atmosphere, which I don't mind at all since that usually
eventually leads to the truth.
At the other end of the spectrum are posts which are so bland as to
generate no interest at all. Those also should be avoided like the
plague. Like most things in life, there is a balance to be found.
