But when one switches the amp on the switching of the triac can be heard on the HF transceiver.
However, this is not really an issue since it disappears in approx. 2 seconds. I haven't heard of any problems with this softstarter so I guess it is a technically sound solution.
At least in my twin GU84B amp with 3 phase power supply the 3 softstarters (one per phase) perform very well.

Dick,

I think the Emtrons are zero crossers.

Pat Stein uses them in the Commander series, too.

The amp never makes a thump when it's switched on,
not like the Alpha clone that makes the floor jump.

I've heard that Emtron is selling their softstarter as a seperate item.
This softstarter is a small switcher which chops the AC voltage, by doing
so limiting the inrush current.
