AL-811Question

I am repairing an AL-811 that was blowing fuses.

I found one of the 811 tubes had a short between the filament and plate.

My question is can I buy an 811A tube and run it with the two existing 811 tubes?

?
With some older analog VOM's having a 6 KV socket Id say the probe wire is good to at least 10 KV,
?
Ive seen regular RG8/213 used to over 6KV in commercial installations to run HV around.but I wouldnt do it with worn out hamfest wire, Ive used it to 3600V for 30 years in my 2M amp but replace it every 10 years or so. UHF cnnectors are Teflon Amphenol.
?
Teflon cable can be dangerous as the center conductor cold flows in bends.

Usually test lead wire is good for about 6KV. You can get ‘igniter wire’ from a furnace place. We use it for igniting our pilots on our waste solvent burners.? That stuff is usually silicone and good for about 20KV.

What do folks use nowadays for high voltage wire between a power supply and the amp? A check with car parts stores for spark plug wire yields only today’s weird stuff (used to suppress radio interference?) that doesn’t have copper. In one case, ?a “high performance” spark wire company boasts that their product has a resistance of “only” 40-50 ohms per foot. Ridiculous. Thoughts?

Re: High voltage wire

I have used Packard 440 ignition wire from NAPA or Advance Auto.

Currently, I am running 10KV at 3.7 amps on a commercial Radio FM station
using Neon Light wiring from a local Neon sign shop.

Ebay. Type in high voltage wire 15kv and you should get enough hits.

What about some wire that was used for the picture tube HV connection, if its around anymore?

I use 30KV neon sign wire from amazon.? The white version.? I then strip some coax braid from some RG58 to make a shield.

I’ve used Teflon RG-8.? Left the shield on and grounded it at each end.?

I bought it from a junk pile at a hamfest.

Check into wire for test lead use.? You can find fantastically high voltage ratings on those.

25k? uf? ?cap? is? only? charged up? to? 12? vdc...? = lousy 1.8? joules.? ? Cap? in parallel? with? 12 vdc? coil.?

How much relay pitting would you get at 25,000 uf ?
A little more complicated, but a 555 timer with a adjustment knob
might let you experiment a little more with hang time.

5? kv? @? 10A? contacts. (5A? RF). So? will? parallel? the?
