OT: LCM+L VM/SP image is offline this weekend

I am doing back up & migration of the LCM+L VM/SP 5 image. To insure the image is clean, I have shutdown the machine for the weekend.??

p.s. The usual disclaimer: I do not work for the LCM+L and do not speak for them.??

Mark,

I did some work on that machine before Drew started. Never had a formal contract or anything like that.

Pay no attention to the BOFH behind the curtain.

You're welcome.

In more serious note, the new image is now running, but I don't know when it will be publicly available.? There are minor firewall issues, and it's part of a larger effort that I truly don't know the status of.

If you end up needing hosting for that, LSSM can help, let me know.

Hi everyone--

Does the game disk that was on the LCM+L VM/SP5 image exist somewhere
on the 'net?

I remember playing those mainframe versions of games on family day at
Santa Teresa Lab when I was 7-8 years old.

I joined the group awhile back and I'm sorry that I've not had too
much to say; I'm not really a mainframe person, though I find it all
fascinating.

And it's back, now hosted by sdf.org.?

Access via:

  • A 3270 emulator to planet.sdf.org (port 23)
  • ssh to menu@...
  • From https://www.sdf.org, click on Explore Vintage Systems

The latter two options both use a host-side instance of c3270.

new: If you use plain telnet to planet.sdf.org (port 23), you will be a connected to a tty (actually 3215) port.

The direct access planet.sdf.org port 23 access may change; I'll post if it does.

-ahd-

p.s. My new (!) improved (!) disclaimer: I do not work for the LCM+L -or- SDF, and do not speak for either.??

?

?

Mike,
I suspect it was built from many places. There are quite a few games in the files section on the groups space on groups.io.

That second option should be menu at tty.sdf.org

Apparently, the web IU decided that we can't share an email address in a private forum.

Much of it came from VM SixPack games disk.? The most of the rest I built from among an early 1980s Clarkson College games archive (for one brief shining moment, I was the assistant games warden at Clarkson).

Did the copy go to SDF.org?? I was able to log in to my userid on their '4361' VM/SP 5 system, but my 191 was corrupted.

I think cause is that while Spinhawk used a syntax of {cuu} in the configuration file, Hyperion made a flag-day change and changed it to {CUU} and fails to warn if the configuration is using the obsolete lower-case syntax.?I?thought I reset the disks the before we went public on at SDF.

I've have another report of corrupted disks.? I can't chase it without a your userid, which is?? (Reply to me privately, no need to waste mailing list bandwidth.)?

Say what?! I've always used uppercase device addresses in my config files, but it should accept lower case as well. I'll check that and fix it.

I take that back. I'm using upper *and* lower case in the config file my Hercules instance is running right now. Are you sure that's where the problem lies?

This is incorrect.? Lower case was expanded under Spinhawk, not under Hyperion.

I'm either doing something wrong or am not fully understanding the problem. Can you show me and example of the problem occurring? (i.e. can you provide a reproducible test case?)

Thanks!

p.s. Is this is truly a bug in SDL Hyperion, you should officially report it on our GitHub Issues page:

Yes, after I get a coherent copy of SDFVM running.

I freely admit that I could be confused. Logs and sample configuration files now cut in bug.

SDFVM is back.? See the GitHub issues for the source of the confusion.
