The Data for Implementation (Data.FI) project is excited to announce the next webinar of our Winter Series, taking place on Nov. 21 at 9am EST, Launching the Digital Community Systems Toolkit: a Resource for Implementing Partners, Governments, and Community Stakeholders. The webinar will walk us through the Digital Community Systems Toolkit, a document co-authored by USAID and Data.FI that provides guidance for enhancing community health and social services through person-centered and integrated digital solutions. Drawing from experiences from the Southern Africa region, the event will offer insights on how DCS can best be leveraged for those working in the implementation and program design spaces. Our panelists include the Toolkit’s co-authors—Netsanet Animut, Pascal Mwele, Amarynth Sichel, Joy Kamunyori, and Sriyanjit Perera. Data.FI’s Project Director, Shreshth Mawandia, will moderate the discussion. This event builds upon insights gained at a technical workshop held in Cape Town in collaboration with Digital Square at PATH in November 2023 and will be the first opportunity for stakeholders to learn directly from the Toolkit’s co-authors and to hear about the innovative strategies that came out of this yearlong effort. We plan to follow up with additional launch activities in-person at the Global Digital Health Forum, held this year from Dec. 4–6 in Nairobi!

Join our CHAP launch webinar on Thursday, 21 November, 14:00-15:00 CET CHAP (Climate Health Analytics Platform) is a collaborative and open platform for harmonizing climate and health data, as well as importing, training, tuning, assessing, and sharing predictive models for climate-informed disease forecasting. It includes streamlined integration with the DHIS2 system for accessing health data and disseminating forecasts through the new DHIS2 Prediction App (currently in pilot status), but is also fully functional as a stand-alone platform. CHAP and the Prediction App are developed by the HISP Centre at University of Oslo, and are currently being tested in several countries in Africa and Asia as part of the DHIS2 for Climate & Health project. While our initial use cases are focused on forecasting malaria and dengue outbreaks, as a generic platform CHAP can potentially be leveraged for a range of climate-sensitive health impacts. We are happy to share CHAP as both a free and open-source tool and collaborative project open to contributions by everyone interested in joint development of data processing, machine learning and software to advance the field of climate and health analytics. Dear colleagues, I'd like to personally invite you to apply for the 2025 Leadership in Strategic Communication Workshop, held from June 16 to July 4, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland. I run this workshop through the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs alongside a distinguished faculty of public health, policy and development experts. Throughout the three-week workshop, participants will develop a scalable communication campaign to address a global health or development challenge while also exploring their own personal potential for making a positive impact in the world. Previous cohort campaigns have ranged from advocating for improved access for African Americans to mental health and addiction services in the city of Baltimore, to using social media influencers to encourage young people from rural Georgia to change their eating habits to prevent heart disease, to a concept designed to help people in Puerto Rico, where alcohol use disorders are prevalent, think about slowing consumption down and keeping alcohol away from children. The communication framework used throughout the course has been used to develop communication strategies for more than 30 years but has been updated to incorporate lessons learned and to acknowledge the real-time, dynamic nature of the strategic process as well as new technologies and the constantly changing nature of communication, social norms and individual behavior and decision-making. The workshop draws from many disciplines, including design theory, behavioral economics, social psychology and anthropology. The LSCW has more than 5,000 alumni in 100 countries around the world, including country presidents, ministers of health, USAID mission directors, and other leaders in government, public health, global development, medicine and communication.
