I got my quote for the CallAir from Gallagher today. Not good. Nearly $2,500 for 60k hull and the usual liability. No accidents/incidents and 500+ hours tailwheel. That¡¯s nuts.?

Alex,

You're right, that's nuts.? I have only slightly over 100 hours total time, of which 65 hours is taildragger, yet my $30k hull insurance plus usual liability through Assurance via AOPA was $1030 per year.

Try Falcon Insurance out of Kerrville TX via EAA. I found AOPA expensive beyond everyone else.?

Alex,

I read in AOPA News this morning a possible explanation for your astronomical hull insurance increase (see?).? Though the article is focused on AOPA's partner, Assured Partners, it asserts rates have increased across aviation.? Just what we need ¨C higher costs for flying.

As I studied the insurance article in more detail, I read that relying on Basic Med in lieu of a 3rd class medical can contribute to much higher premiums.? I have a Basic Med appointment with my physician this morning, but given I have no reason to believe I couldn't pass a 3rd class medical, I may reconsider and go for the 3rd class renewal, at least until the insurance market settles.?

Brian

P.S. It's particularly galling to read that the 737 Max fiasco a likely contributor to the overall aviation premium increase.

I read the same article and didn¡¯t find anything to comfort me.? Afterward, I talked to Avemco,, still an independent insurance company that underwrites their own policies, and received a quote that was $1k more than Gallagher. The reinsurance market seems to be driving their rate. The underwriter I talked to was sympathetic and a nice guy I talked to 3 years ago ... I could hear sympathy coming through the phone, but the realized that was the recorded menu option tree.?

Still on the quest for a fair quote.?
