Anyone know what these are?
I¡¯ve had these machine tool parts for about 10 years now. I got them from a machinist that went to a nursing home and never got to ask him what they were. They¡¯re marked with common thread sizes but the actual pitch is half of what they are labeled as. All I can think is they¡¯re for a screw cutting operation on a lathe that doesn¡¯t have screw gears? There are no makers marks on the parts or the box other than the latch says Prestolock Co.? They seem to be very well made.?

Unfortunately they don¡¯t have a way to expand. They also have a drive pin on one end and a center in the end that¡¯s labeled with the thread pitch.? On Sun, Apr 20, 2025 at 12:40?PM J Jones via <cmmguy=[email protected]> wrote:

Also a file skates over them like glass. Probably 60+ Rockwell? On Sun, Apr 20, 2025 at 12:50?PM Jacob Coby via <jacob.coby=[email protected]> wrote:

I'm not sure, I haven't used something like that before

Are you looking at the phenolic sleeve? I never thought they were part of the tool but I suppose that¡¯s a possibility. Oddly enough they all have that slit except for the one labeled as -13. I always assumed it was there to make them easier to remove from the sleeve.? All of the sleeves measure approximately the same. 3/4 necking down to 5/8.? Thanks. I¡¯d love to find out what they are. Best I can tell they¡¯re a threading guide for something like a production lathe or even something like the Hardinge cataract lathe or some other small precision lathe but I¡¯ve never been able to find anything definitive.? With about 5¡± of thread at half pitch you¡¯re only going to get maybe 1-2¡± of thread out of one of these things.? It¡¯s also weird the thread itself is a 60 degree v thread. For something that would drive a lathe I would have expected something more like an acme thread or other prismatic or square thread.? They look like a good fit to support an older industry (by a "qualified" technician)...such as printing press production line. Bet placed: $40 to the museum if I lose. On Sun, Apr 20, 2025, 3:03 PM Jacob Coby via <jacob.coby=[email protected]> wrote:
