online voting in a zoom meeting

Hi Folks,?
I'll be facilitating my food co-op's annual meeting (and a special meeting too probably, though they haven't sorted those details out yet) and need to figure out the best way to count for quorum and also get votes. I can imagine having someone check the participant counts several times, and historically we've used an online voting mechanism, but I'm hoping to use something that doesn't cost $6k this time around (money's tight with the pandemic). Got recs?
Thanks,
Annie

A simple way is to use polls in Zoom. ?Make sure people register so you know who they are, or depending on the number of attendees, you may want someone to check them in as the enter the waiting room.

Hi Annie,
I second David with Zoom Polls, however it may fail on some people’s end. This is why you need to guarantee that they can send you their vote through chat as well.

You can use a side voting tool , like surveymonkey or event google forms to count votes.?
That will work very well.?

If you just need to have a quorum voting, then the vote results will tell you how many people voted.?

If you have a gate that only lets those that are allowed?to vote to get into the voting tool, then you know everything you need to know.?

The cheap and easy solution is google forms, assuming you don't need anything fancy and you don't need to add new votes over and over again on the fly.?

Otherwise, you will need to give people enough time to build the forms. So you will need someone with that job.?

Hi Annie-

I’m very cognizant of coming off as sales-y or as if I’m pitching our products unsolicited, so please excuse me if my reply lands wrong. But customers regularly leverage our technology () for your use case - specifically, main room/event + voting by participants (also breakout groups, if/when needed) all in one platform, launched directly within browser - so I'm sharing in case we can help.

Whereas zoom polling is binary and only those participants joining through their computer can submit their vote, our platform has virtual "hand raise" polling choices 1-5 and participants can submit their?votes through computer OR phone.?

Polls can be created on the fly (according to one of our independent facilitator friends, this is "worth its weight in spades"), and results of the vote can be shown live in real time during the event. The data can be saved and csv exported during the event and/or post-event (and/or we can use our database as a backup for vote tallying).?

And if you really wanna geek out and get creative, you can put your participants into breakouts based on those vote results.?

Happy to share more/set you up with a quick demo if you think it might work for you.

My email is julian@....?

Thanks for letting me share.?

I recommend Slido. Free version and paid upgrade if needed. Can run quizzes, polls, create word clouds and share results live on screen (or switch results off if you don’t want people to see them). Can vote via phone or computer and we have been using this successfully in our training for a few weeks now.

Best wishes

Thanks friends! Since we've been using a different and expensive (and separate from our business) voting mechanism for a while, I don't think that the folks in charge are going to approve a zoom poll, but I could see them going for a google form since we can get their member numbers that way and confirm that they're allowed to vote. And though I wish it were just a simple poll, we'll need the data from it afterwards - not just live results.?
And Julian I didn't mind the sales-y pitch at all. It's always good to learn about new (to me) tools.
Cheers.?

And! I had an RCV ballot measure on my ballot. And hosted a lot of yard signs on my porch until they all were distributed throughout my county. I love me some RCV...

Hi,

A few years ago, at a non-profit where I served on the board, we happily used ElectionBuddy for running board elections at our annual member meeting (<$100 for <1,000 participants). Supports anonymous voting, election audit and other key e-voting features (which some of the other tools mentioned so far may not have):

There are other providers in the e-voting space, some of which may be listed here:?

You'd need to have someone transpose the results into xlsx/sheets, but I saw someone do a poll last week in zoom using screen share and annotation.
Poll questions are put up and individuals annotate their responses with a stamp. Definitely not "high tech" but worked surprisingly well. Prof who demonstrated said they have used it for undergrad classes with enrolment in excess of 500 with good success. Responses could be screen captured themselves and tabulated afterwards.

Slack is another?option that can leveraged in a number of ways, that might be useful/worth a look.

Good luck with it!?

Depending on the amount of participants that will be voting maybe Stormz can help, it can track the whole voting process as well.

Hope you can find your holy tech grail for this engagement!
