Pairing / Supporting: Facilitators on the job

Hi all,?

Can we find a way to buddy up? Find ways for us to support eachother as we do our works? Do tech stewarding? Co-facilitating? Mentoring? etc.?

I'm going to write out my situation - as a starter for ten/call for support/experimental template for laying out the info.?

I'm interested to see:?
(a) what my call for support leads to
(b) how the call for support 'template' I've laid out below is useful and how it can be improved

... Breathe...?

Here's the situation:

A small local bereavement therapy charity I volunteer for have suddenly gone remote. This is huge for the staff who run the organisation, the therapists who do the therapy, and the clients receiving therapy. Everything has changed for everyone suddenly. And is only going to get more serious as the next few weeks/months go by. They are getting by with Office 365 basics for now. They have a mix of urgent need for transformation and a very sensitive domain.?

  • Proposal: I've suggested that the Ecocycle workshop could be a good reflection process before we wade in to choosing tools and flows.?
  • Challenge: I haven't led an Ecocycle workshop before. I haven't done any online meetings with them before. They are new to Zoom. I don't want to overwhelm them.?
  • Support: at this point, I could really do with: someone who has done this before, someone who can do tech stewarding, maybe both, maybe that's the same person
  • Timezone: UK GMT (about to be BST)?
  • Likely times: Thursday sometime
  • Money: I'm volunteering, this would be voluntary support

best wishes
Ed

(This is picking up from Nancy's suggestion to start a new thread about this from here:?/g/f4c-response/message/258)

I would love to pair as well. ?I can definitely co-faciliate and love co-facilitating and designing ways to engage a group. ?I was just introduced to the Ecocycle so I'm on a learning curve and would love to see someone use the tool again .

So, for regular sessions I'm happy to co-faciliate. Regarding ecocycle, I need to learn.

I love the idea of pairing!
Ed,
I’d be happy to pair/support as well. I have used ecocycle offline, and have experience some experience online with this tool, and a bit more with other tools. I’d be happy to do a call (maybe with Elana??) to help get you started?

Catherine, that would be terrific!

Just catching up - this is what you're talking about when you write "ecocycle,' right?

Hi all,

Do we know if someone was setting up a document for pairing/mentoring? I would also love to learn more about the nuances of methods of facilitation and the ecocycle.?

Thanks,

Meghan

Yes, that was Ecocycle planning? ?- and reflection is part (not all) of the process.

Yes please to having a meet to look at The Ecocycle planning tool (

I am happy to organise the logistics and set up the call, so I'm going to proceed unless someone says 'No Ed!' :)

My sense is that the best approximate time is GMT afternoon and PDT morning so I'm going to start with 15:00GMT or 16:00GMT options on a few upcoming days. I'm using doodle, which says that it will show itself to you in your timezone. To add to the fun, The UK is moving from GMT to BST on Sunday!?

Proposed Steps:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Ed set up doodle to find time:?
2. Ed will close doodle Wed 25/3, 10:00 GMT ()
3. Ed will choose?optimal time (Catherine's availability a priority!)
4. Ed will set up zoom call
5. Ed will share time and zoom link on this thread
I hope that's OK. I'm deliberately over-engineering the steps to think it through.?
Here doodle link to find optimal time for meet:?
Here useful timezone link:?
best wishes
.. Catherine, if that's too early for you please let me know and I'll move the time forwards...?
No-one has volunteered yet :)
Works great I chose some options…
One thing we may want to discuss as well is if Ecocycle is the best starting point. It’s a wonderful tool, but not always the easiest Liberating Structure to start with~ We can see!
Hi Ed,?
Regarding Eco-cycle - I am comfortable with the tool and happy to help on that.?
As for doing it online or in Zoom - that is new so I could likely imagine my way through it with you...but others may have actual experience with that.?
Feel free to call on me if you need regarding the tool/ use / part :-)
Best,?
Thanks Michelle,?
and if you want to come to the introduction/review meet the details are in the next post :)
I think I missed the poll closing, but I can be on-the-side support for monday, and Ed, if you want help setting up the template, just holler!
Edited
Hi all,?
thanks to those who filled in the doodle (Elizabeth Dubelman, Sharon, elana centor, Catherine Borgman-Arboleda, Dasha Mytareva, Ed Mitchell). Others are welcome - either use the zoom link below or email me.
As we're making the plane while flying it, there's no tech steward or co-facilitator yet, so I'll juggle to start with and hope that the right attendees step forward at the beginning).?
Meeting time and zoom place
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Monday 30th March
  • 16:00 BST (British Summer Time)
  • See your timezone here: https://everytimezone.com/s/8bfedccf
  • Zoom link here:?

Format/Agenda
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have made a google page with a very rough first proposal on the format/agenda and will return to it Friday morning.
Please have a look in advance. Check the meeting purpose? Make some agenda suggestions? Feel free :)
We will start the meeting with a short agenda-agreeing-conversation.?
If you have any questions etc. please email me: lists@...
Hurray! .. Nervous... :)
best wishes
Ed
Hi Nancy,?
if that is good for you, and within your 'work/life' boundaries, yes please to being 'on-the-side support'. Do you mean the role: 'at-the-meeting-tech-steward-co-facilitator'??
- and am always happy to share agenda setting, templates etc. - so yes please drop a template in, and I'll come back to the page on Friday morning.
best wishes
Ed
Hi all,?
I've added more context and refined the focus a bit so we're talking about a specific requirement for Ecocycle review. Not a defined agenda yet, will attend to that Monday morning (BST) :)
