Ok folks! Here are the artifacts from today - not edited nor cleaned up. Right now getting the sharing going is top priority, but there are a TON of lessons to be gleaned from today. Tomorrow AM at 7AM PDT (check ?to find your time - sorry I'm too crushed to get the right set url - and join us. Information in the groups.io calendar on the group's website. Tomorrow will be less interactive - you will be watching a team use Ecocycle to figure out their next move of converting their organizational meetings online.?

Thanks to Elana for recording and all you note takers!

Any Tech Support people out there?

Hi all,

I am looking for a few good people who are experienced with Zoom and can provide tech support for participants. Not Tech Hosting - I don't mean running the platform (at least not in this case - though I do sometimes need that); in this case, I mean helping participants with their audio or video settings, helping them get into Zoom if they are having trouble, etc. You'll need to be familiar with the specifics of accessing Zoom through mobile devices as well as through a computer, so you can help people who are coming in that way.

I have an immediate need for tech support help for online events using Zoom on April 3rd, 4th, and maybe 5th. If you have the required technical experience and know how to "play nicely" in teams, could you please contact me directly via amy@...?and tell me what your background and interest is? Please include your usual rates (this would be paid work, of course).

Thank you!

Amy

Hi Nancy?

I am in UTC+10 and cannot attend some online meetings that are scheduled in -7 time zone. I was double booked last night.

Could we have a time zone conversion link for future meetings please?

Eg

I would be pleased to review meeting from a recording link when available.

Regards?

The most difficult part of the user experience is that users will have Zoom open and a webpage open, and some users don't know how to view the webpage when Zoom is in front of it or to arrange Zoom &?their browser on their screen side-by-side so they can see them both at the same time.

Zoom charges us 1/2 cent per minute per person and we charge you 1 cent per minute per person (a 4-hour event would cost $2.40 per person).? The first 2500 person-minutes are free.? I'm happy to help answer any questions.

On Qiqo, you create a "circle" for your group.? Each circle has a calendar of events, so people can go back and see the events (and the notes) that happened before.

Facilitating Online Course from University of Cape Town

Hi Nancy,

has generally been limited to colleagues in Africa due to a combination of purpose, passion and funding. We have noticed that there aren't a lot of online facilitation courses available and our team decided to experiment with Facilitating Online Global for the 7 September - 6 November run of the course with up to 25 places available for colleagues from the rest of the world at a fee of around $440 at the current exchange rate. We are also able to make a few places available to colleagues across the world in the 27 April - 26 June run of the course including one or two on a no fee critical friend basis as we consider the next round of improvements to the course.??

Re: About moving to teach online

A link to the abstract of "" by colleagues at University of Cape Town.?

Re: About moving to teach online

Hi Nancy,

Thank for asking about our experience here in South Africa. As it happens we have a lot of experience in universities which attempted to move teaching and learning activities online during the physical campus shutdowns as a result of Fees Must Fall protests a few years ago. These initiatives were only partly successful in supporting teaching and learning because:
  1. Bandwidth and connectivity constraints faced by many students
  2. Large numbers of students were more interested in protesting than continuing with the studies during the shutdown
  3. Lecturers who were unprepared or unwilling to move their courses online
  4. The initiatives by the universities were seen by many as a way to undermine the protests
I expect that if we move to a scenario where university administrations here are considering a period of virtual teaching and learning some of these issues will endure;
  1. Bandwidth and connectivity off campus
  2. Lecturers feeling like they are being forced to get with the programme
  3. Lecturers and students who will strongly raise equity issues as an objection
