Re: CPU question

Yes,
In Fact SETI has done something like that (see ), you can donate your unused processing power to SETI (it looks like a screen saver), they get about 15 TeraFlops). It is also has been used for Cryptography, These types of super computers work best for the types of problems that can be broken up into discrete chunks to be worked on.

After my off-topic statement above, my question on-topic is: is it possible
to make a different type of computer by putting together PIC's?

Thanks, Saad for the lead about building a supercomputer at the Scientific
American website.

d,

Also, we're all capable of reading a newspaper, or watching TV, or listening
to the radio to hear credible accounts of such by people whose job it is to
investigate these things.
Ultimately it's a case of caveat emptor, let the buyer, in this case the reader,

beware. Life doesn't come with any guarantees, including against misinformation
being promulgated. Of course misinformation is often challenged by anyone who
is affected by it, but then so is the truth.

dragn,

I would think however that if you did something to reduce the ill-effects of
a short in a battery to do something like this, you would also drastically
reduce the life of the battery, charge wise anyway
That would depend on what you did, battery life depends on specific factors
not just some attempt to reduce those ill effects. It would probably be
better to designee external circuitry to prevent such effects, then they
would work with any battery. Any current limiting device would probably
have that effect.

Shawn,

I just uploaded a gigantic zip file that contains zips of all the 'tronix
programs I have. Shareware collected over the years. There are a few of my
Visual Basic ones too. One is an Ohms Law drill, another drills on Series
Parallel circuits and another on resistor color code. The Ser Par one started
life in Quick Basic, but I had to give out a schematic for it to be used. In VB
it's all there in the program. It's been in shareware lists in Europe as well as
here.

Re: Energy

Ted,

Now, is this true or
just one of the legends of that war? If this is true, and the technology is
rediscovered, I think this would help very much in the world's energy problem.
Synthetic oil is alive and well and could very well be in a car near you. Not
as a fuel but as lubricant. And that's all I will say on that because it is
probably off topic.

Is it possible to make a design using the principles of the "Sun-Ray" for a
battery operated welding arc? The possibility here is that we can make
heavy construction projects in sites without direct access to abundant
electric power like in the deserts, the mountains and forests in third
world countries, and even in space or on the moon!

I used to have access, many, many years ago, to a so-called 'Sun-Ray'
mains-powered (230-250V) carbon-arc lamp in which when the carbon
electrodes were closed to strike the arc, the current surge was absorbed
by some heavy-gauge air-cored resistors, also mounted in the reflector
bowl, as 'ballast'. Perhaps the principle could be applied to a
battery pack to save it from the ill-effects of the direct short when
striking the welding arc!

Sunan,
You want to Arc weld using batteries? Yes, it can be done,
although it
should be reserved for emergencies only - lead acid batteries do not
respond
well to being short circuited.

Shawn,

Doesn't seem to be a clickable link for files on the E101 page at yahoo.
Maybe the dragon ate em up? Or maybe they need to be enabled.. I have no

If you guys want a file area, let me know, I think we can arrange it

I uploaded the files again, and checked that it was there. It's a pretty

because all the pc stuff is there.

Mandar,

I joined this group very recently and have been a
read-only member,how do I download the hardware.zip file??
You have to go to the group Yahoo site. If you got an
announcement about the file there will be a link in the
message that you can click on which will take you to the
site. If not just go to

Then select the menu item on the left, FILES. Choose the
file you want and select DOWNLOAD from the menu at the top
of the page. I went to this lists site and right now there
are no files in the files section. I know that I uploaded
the hardwar.zip file but I don't know what happened to it.
Maybe the list owner doesn't want files in there, he has the
ability to delete files. If you want a copy, let me know
directly and I will send it as an attachment. It's not very
long, it was created way before bloatware was the order of
the day.

Please, Please Group owner, will you stop in whatever you can those
who try to take over this Group to discuss peripheral matters.
My strategy is to simply ignore topics in which I have no interest.
Why are so many so anal retentive over a little departure from
