Re: Step #1 Encoder #RELS
You can get movement but not much work from a NEMA 17 motor. Ralph

Re: Step #1 Encoder #RELS
Yeah we call it stiction. There is a new breed of smart stepper which is a currently a neema 17 with closed loop feedback positioning. The specs say the position accuracy is 0.01125 which translates

If time is an issue focus on the ESP32. It's the best price performance compromise. ???

Re: #MODS Lathe motor upgrade #MODS
Lol. I made a smaller, simpler bracket for mine. This lathe has about a quarter the swing of your Atlas so I don¡¯t need a countershaft to not run the plain bearings too fast. There was some stuff

Re: #MODS Lathe motor upgrade #MODS
Hi Ralph, Possibly a support on the LH side of the motor. 2 x L shaped brackets bolted together to allow them to slide for belt tension, cut a vee under the top bracket to contact the O/D of the

#MODS Lathe motor upgrade #MODS
I have a 101.07403 12x36 Craftsman Lathe with a 1/2hp motor. I am "thinking" about upgrading the motor. I threw this mount together just to see what it might look like. The motor is a Consew 3/4 hp

Re: #RELS Firmware #RELS
Hi John L. I tried looking through the RELS code. I found it difficult to follow but then I do only tiny projects using the Arduino IDE. I've not even figured out how to set break points and single

Thanks John D for the reply. Please follow me on this in regards to the RELS.and as far as I know, there is only 1 more fully operational system within our forum members. RELS I must admit is possibly

Re: EMI interference #RELS
Field experience says shields need to be tied to common, tying to ground doesn't work as well... Especially when motors are involved. As I stated, keep the high current wires away from the low current

Re: EMI interference #RELS
The only thing I'd disagree with is that the shields should be tied to the common. Everything I've been taught says the shields are connected to the frame and ultimately the Earth connection. If you

Re: EMI interference #RELS
There would not be any reason to tie the ground of the VFD to the RELS common, at least not that I can think of. The VFD ground is tied to the ground of the motor and to the chassis. All the RELS

Re: EMI interference #RELS
John, you lost me on the "common" where is the common between a VFD and RELS and other components in the area?

Re: EMI interference #RELS
Noise can be a difficult thing to deal with, but there are a number of solutions that you can turn to. First, it is important to understand what causes the "spikes and blips". My background is over 40

I am no expert on EMC but it could certainly could help. Just to determine the situation have you changed to a 3 phase motor but running single phase into the VFD? If so which VFD? How good is your
