Transfer to Groups.io appears complete!
7
Hi Gang, It appears that the transfer of A1G from YahooGroups to Groups.io is now complete. You should all have received a welcome message. Here is the report I received: We've transferred the following parts of your group: Members Messages Photos Files Links Databases IMPORTANT: Yahoo Groups has been very unreliable lately. If you find that you are missing Photos, Files or Messages, it is because we were unable to export them due to problems with Yahoo Groups. Also, we do not transfer calendar events. Here are some statistics: Total Members Processed: 86 Successfully Added: 75 Bounced Members (Skipped): 8 Moderated Members: 8 Members on Digest: 7 Undisclosed Emails (Skipped): 0 3 email addresses were not added (one is mine, I was already here, plus another person already subscribed, so that's really only one). 8 email addresses were not added because they were bouncing. 85 photos were transferred. 35 files were transferred. 4 links were transferred. 0 databases were transferred. (We didn't have any.) With the change to groups.io, there are a few changes. The key change is that you cannot "opt out" of e-mail, however you can continue to receive digests in two formats if you don't want individual e-mails. This was my call, not a groups.io restriction. We are such a low-volume group anyway (only 429 messages since the start of the group!) that I would rather have fewer active participants than more non-active participants. I need to take a look around the new site, after which I will "mothball" the YahooGroups version. Cheers, George A1G list-owner

A1G moving to Groups.io
4
Between the spotty service, the new "privacy" policy and the strong rumor that Yahoo will be shutting down groups without warning, I've decided it's time to join those groups which have migrated to groups.io. I suspect that some of you have already had groups to which you belong migrate. It should be a relatively smooth process since we are a relatively small group. Everything except photos automatically moves over. Or at least that's what they say! I don't expect to be anywhere near the threshold at which groups.io expects to charge for this group, so no worries there. We'll continue to be a free and low-key (and low volume!) discussion forum. Cheers, George Your list-owner

PMI cars - [was OT perhaps -Where in the hierarchy
Indeed Michael thank you. They are all marked Lima/ Italy on the underbody. Interestingly they- - have bodies identical to Atlas made by RR types, except the door windows are much deeper, and the Lima combine is the same. - all car types have the same roof, - are not identical in any way to actual RR branded cars (of which I think I only have two). - are not the same plastic in manufacture or colour of the 'other' branded cars -similar but slightly less well defined (i perceive) 3 axle trucks. - box art (NIB all) proclaims: PMI 'N' GAUGE TRAINS_ "Precision Models made in Italy". Their 'Santa Fe' shall become something else in due course. thanks davew ---In a1g@..., <goldrod_1@...> wrote : Sold by AHM/PMI and later on by Model Power. Lima Heavyweight Passenger Cars

[OT perhaps] Where in the hierarchy

do 'PMI' boxed passenger equipment come in? Mine are packed up and I will unearth in a few hours sometime this weekend, but wondered if anyone has done a flow chart of the evolution/ devolvement of N scale manufacturing... TBH it's a pretty blurry picture, and I'm usually able to discern patterns, regards davew

I thought they might have been an OEM since the Rowa cars have the same metal-with-one-wheel-insulated axles and wheels as used on my Atlas cars. Also, I believe that Con-Cor sold Rowa cars under their brand, as I also have a set of D&H cars that came in Con-Cor boxes with the dot-matrix printed end labels. Unfortunately I had to dispose of the boxes as they'd been wet and smelled pretty bad. I'm surprised that no one bought those molds when Rowa went under, they were quite detailed for the time. Smoothside Streamlined Passenger Cars
6
Hi gents Just picked up by auction (here in NZ) a 2652 Smoothside Combine "Baggage" PRR in moderate condition for about $14US equiv including freight. Nice little car but not sure it will travel on rails with its sister Huron Rapids which I'm pleased to say I could put on a CZ consist as the real thing did appear on the D&RGW edition at one time or more. Moderate condition- no box at all- roof paint scratched / flaked off in small patches; blemishes on predominantly one side I'm guessing from packing, with wear down to plastic on some edges and profile highlights. With lighting, no interior set, both trucks (only a little axle rust) present but one coupler gone, would need touch up or respray to rehabilitate to show status. Just thought I'd let you know they get around! regards davew (UMTRR novice @ 10 years) ;-)

Shameless Plug Department: A1G 94 Foot Tank Cars on eBay
3
Hi group, Shameless plug department... for those of you who may be looking for any of the four 94 foot tank cars, I have all four listed on eBay right now, closing Saturday 20 January at 8PM Eastern Time. Look for "umtrr-author" as the seller, or here's one of the citations from which you can see the other three: https://www.ebay.com/itm/302601675514 eBay has clamped down on what can and can't be said in listings, so I could not mention that the proceeds will go toward the costs of hosting the A1G website. Please note that I'm not looking to open a debate on selling venues here. Thanks... Cheers, George (your group owner and A1G webmaster)

Mike, thanks for asking, it has been a while... The main site, from which all of the pages can be accessed, is http://www.irwinsjournal.com/a1g There are individual pages for each of the A1G body styles, accessible via the pull-down in the top frame or through the introductory page. The Helium Cars are Series 3030 and the Bay Window Cabooses are Series 2430. Cheers, George On Fri, 17 Feb 2017 12:23:32 +0800, "Mike Glossop mikebgloss@... A few new photos on the A1G site
7
Hi gang... Well, Yahoo says there's been no activity here in, well, months. I don't expect a surge in postings either... but... I have added a few new images to the site. First, I've picked up three more Bay Window cabooses. One is the red "transfer" version and two more are E-R Models re-releases on the body style. They're now available through the Bay Window Caboose page (2430). Also, you might be aware that Micro-Trains went to Roco for a production of Helium Tank Cars, which brings an original A1G item into the 21st Century! I added a photo of the MTL release of "NASA Series #3" which is the Roco car with MTL trucks, couplers, and paint, to the bottom of the Helium Cars Page (3030). All for now... Cheers, George www.irwinsjournal.com/a1g

Maybe is A1G this box car?
Hi George, Here is Carlos Eduardo from S?o Paulo - Brasil. I am an N enthusiast since 1980. You can imagine how difficult was that early years to find and buy N scale material. With the advent of EBay the life turn easier but not a wonderful since I collect Penn Central Stuff. When you publish A1G site, part of your Jornal, I decide to gather those cars and locos. At this time I have 1146 cars which are about 1000 N scale. In the A1G section of the collection are about 150 cars. Your site always be a precious source of information for me in an adventure to find some new cars. Well, I am writing to ask for some help: I have a 40?Single Door Box Car in the ATSF color with TRIX - Western Germany marks on the bottom of the car. The problem is that car appears on the page 31 of the Atlas 1967-68 Catalog besides another 40?Box Car that really are A1G! (Will send pictures in another e-mail) If we look at close the car, it has the some roof, rear and front side patterns of the Atlas cars. The two visible differences are the shape of the door and the fact that the ATSF cars does not have rivets on the junction of the steel plates of the car?s sides. (Pictures in another e-mail) I will appreciate so much any information¡ And if you consider relevant, I can scan the 67/68 catalog to add in the site. Thanks a lot, Carlos
