Question about an Atlas 0-4-0T

Edward Bridges

I was just looking through the scans of the Atlas/Rivarossi catalog
and noticed a small 0-4-0T shown. Mfr # 2187.

I own three of these, all came from Con-Cor, but one of them is
STILL marked ATLAS inside the body shell on the underside of the cab
roof, even though it came from Con-Cor.

I will try to post scans of this engine (I have stripped the factory
paint from it, but other than that it is unatlered).

Anyone know if Atlas ever relesed this engine as 2187? I would like
to know.

Let's see... I have two variations of #2169 (not 2187) that are both 0-6-0Ts, not 0-4-0Ts. Reminds me, I still need to scan these for Doug...

There was also an 0-6-0T that Atlas sold as a "Saddle Tank Engine" which it is, I'm looking at it right now on the shelf. This one would be sort of a one and a halfth generation if my mental calendar is correct, by the way. Will need to make a scan of that for Doug too!

I seem to dimly recall that Con-Cor sold some repacked Rivarossi stuff under its own brand... actually that's been true for a while, but I don't mean the equipment that Riva did specifically for Con-Cor after Atlas went "independent" and moved production to the USA and/or Kato.

So would I, for that matter. Here's a kicker: Wingard doesn't show a 2187 in his list! 2185 is the Saddle Tanker and 2186 is an 0-4-0 with tender. (He then jumps tot he 4000s with the SW-1500s.)

I wonder if that "2187" is the same 0-4-0 without a tender and with a coupler attached to the back? It would look kind of silly, though.

Ed, you should be able to post the scans right to the Files section. Belated thanks to Ola for his posts there as well.

I think what this is all about is that Atlas released some things in Europe
that were not released in the U.S. (the brown Erie Lackawanna 50" boxcar, for
instance).

Ola's scans he sent to the list site include this locomotive and the scans
are from a European catalog.

It's completely possible that Rivarossi used leftover Atlas parts after their
relationship with Atlas ended (being that Rivarossi is infamous for having
continual financial problems).

It is quite possible that this little engine was only sold
overseas. I have only ever seen 5 of them and all were in Rivarossi
packaging and labeling.

This scan posted to this group is where I got the 2187 from. I will
post scans of the Atlas markings insdide the shell as time permits
as well as the entire engine.

Funny you should mention about the 0-6-0T as I had the Atlas version upto about a year and a half ago. I didn't have the original case and insert with it so I can't comment about the actual part number. I sold it to a friend of mine who's a member of the Orange County N-gineers a modular group here in Ca. He was able to fine tune it and get it back into running condition. It was definately a saddleback steam loco as George mentioned and was a Rivarossi model manufactured for Atlas.

I'm glad to get all these e-mails from everyone concerning A1G. It's really good to see all the positive responces on these great models. Sure brings back a lot of good memories seeing pictures of all the motive power and freight cars when N scale was in it's infancy.
Keep it rolling!
Rick
