Question about a referigerator cars place of manufacture

Edward,

Somebody must have replaced the original underframe with one from an Atlas
Roco car.

The Miller car was definitely made by Rivarossi and should just have "Atlas"
underneath as George stated.

I recently purchased a #2394, Miller High Life 40' refirgerator
car. I thought it was odd that the underframe says Atlas Austria on
it.

Wasn't this car made by Rivarossi in Italy?

BTW...This car didn't have a box.

Is this a complete car or do I need to find a new frame for the car?

Any help would be appreciated.

I will defer to Charlie for a second opinion on this, but my copy of the Miller car and the other refrigerators I have in this group (MDT, ATSF El Cap, Morrell, Safeway, Carnation Milk, IC, REA) all have just "Atlas" stamped on the underframe with no country of origin.

Riva has been re-issuing and reselling this body style for quite a number of years, and Arnold is still selling the El Cap and IC roadnames, so it seems logical that these cars were made in Italy for a while.

Most of mine don't either... I don't worry about that. Accumulating A1G means never having to say 'factory air.' (Even if you can figure out which factory!)

I think that's up to your sense of how complete you need your car to be. We're easy :-)

Many thanks for the input on my question. I sort of figured it
wasn't original, but wanted to ask the experts. I do have some
straight Atlas boxcar frames here in my junk box, so will restore
this car to its original condition.

I am attempting to build my accumulation of old Atlas cars, but have
started to concentrate on the boxed cars. I do have several that do
not have boxes. Someday, I want to build a display case to display
all this stuff in (I am working on accumulating locomotives, frieght
cars and passenger cars from the A1G era).

They aren't kidding this stuff is easy to come by. In just the past
2 months, I have acquired about 35 freight cars, 8 locomotives and
one passenger car, mostly from ebay.

I do have some duplicate cars here. Anyone need a M&StL coal hopper
(A1G 2422)? I have three extra cars I would be willing to trade for
other cars or sell outright.

Email me offlist if interested.
