Interesting variation of 2435 "transfer" bay window caboose

Edward Bridges

This afternoon, I received what I thought was going to be a
replacement 2435 "Transfer" bay window caboose. This one is brown
with the number across the bay window. The car I had that I was
going to replace was lettered the same way, But it was bright RED!

I will try to get pictures of the two together as time permits.
Both car are still in original boxes, but the red one is missing
some roof details (if anyone has some of these details to part with,
let me know).

Have I found yet another variation not yet documented?

Is anybody else having problems with the link to my A!GMP site?

I will also, in the future, include the actual URL address in any post along
with a titled link or use the URL as the title itself.

Thanks,
Doug

Chance, your attachment did not come through. The settings for this group are that attachments are removed. Please try posting any images in the files or photos area and let me know if you have any problems.

The 3022, C&O 81015, is an A1G car. It's in the "Flat Cars" section since I didn't know where else to put it in the pulldown menu.

Not all A1Gs had blue inserts, although all the 3022's I've ever seen did. Some had clear inserts and some white if I recall correctly. Few of my A1Gs remain near their original boxes...

My question is this: I noticed the blue packaging inside the car, and
thought that was trademark of the a1g stuff. When did Atlas stop
doing the blue thing?

prototype for #2204 GN boxcar

After George's info about the prototype for the FEC boxcar, I decided to go
out there and find a photo of the prototype for the Great Northern car of the
same series. I found one with the same paint scheme although the number series
is different. There is listed a 27000 series but the car shown is Glacier
Green (could have been repainted). Unfortunately, when I was at the site, the link
to a larger image wasn't working. Scroll down the page. <A href=">GN 40' Boxcars</A>

Re: Some proto info on the 2201 Florida East Coast

Very interesting, George. This could open up a whole new facet for discussion
- finding the prototypes (if any:") for the A1G equipment. It looks like the
FEC car is at least pretty close to the real thing.

website

I've made a few text changes. I added a note about lubrication on the Riva.
motor page, made the Home page a little more present tense, added a link to
send the email to join this list, and included my reasoning behind including the
Cow and Calf as A1G motive power.

Some proto info on the 2201 Florida East Coast

umtrr

Found this citation on the "Steam Era Freight Cars" site with respect
to the blue Florida East Coast 40 foot boxcar, which was catalog
number 2201 in the A1G series. You may have to glue this link
together:

There's a circa 1961 photo of the car which is blue with yellow
lettering. I know that the original paint scheme was boxcar red with
white lettering. It looks like the yellow lettering variation is
going to be more correct. The prototype was a 1937 AAR boxcar.

Interesting reading. Caution: You could get lost in this site!

Cheers,

Type color

I changed the obnoxious magenta type to a kinda dark orange. Seems easy
enough to read while drawing attention. Oh yeah, I added a WDT page too.

I find it is nice to see trasffic on this list. I notice we have
broken the 40+ message mark this month for the first time.

I have some variations to post as time permits this weekend.

but is there a link from the Atlas web site?
There is a link to the current Atlas web site on the home page of
George Irwin's web site for the A1G equipment, toward the bottom of
the page.

Re: Activity in the group

Yup, it's great to have the increased activity. When I got home tonight,
there were 3 or 4 a1gs in the inbox! I don't even have to check the subject to see
if I'm interested in reading the post. It's a given :")

By the way, I have to change the color of the type in my encouragement to
join this group on my site. It was a more reddish color in my editor than it
ended up being on the site. Or do you guys think it looks OK? Looks kinda garish
to me.

This is probably too obvious, but is there a link from the Atlas web site?
I would think they would like to have a historical reference, if nothing else
to show how long they have been in business.

I suspect that Paul Graf would know who to contract.

It would be a matter of contacting site owners and offering a mutual link to
the other sites.

As far as recruiting for the list ( I don't know why I didn't think of this
right off the bat) I am going to include an encouragement on each page of my
site to join the A1G list and maybe a link too.

Great thoughts, George.

If you are offering, I am interested in the European items if they
have a company name or logo on them. We call these 'Bill Boards"
in the USA.

Al scannings are now under the same file.

Re: Last pages from Atlas Rivarossi catalogue

Ola,

I, for one, would be interested in what Atlas was selling over there for
European prototype. I think it's interesting that Rivarossi contracted with Atlas
to market their stuff in Europe rather than selling it directly or signing up
a European distributor.

And thanks for posting those pictures.
