Whispers in the Dark - Scheherazade, Callum

?- Scheherezade -

?

As Sam stood lost in thought she realized she needed to find Jaimie. She obviously had hurt his feelings and that was not her intention...even if he did kind of hurt hers. But she was sure that wasn't his intention either. Jaimie was a sweet kid and she needed to let him know that there were no hard feelings between them. Especially if She was going to stay on here and potentially run the bed and breakfast, she needed Jaimie as an ally.? She was jus thinking of going to find him when, Callum appeared standing below the balcony. She waved at his call. And smiled a soft sweet smile at his suggestion. Maybe he could help her with Jaimie.?

"I'll be right down," Sam said.

Walking back inside, she slipped on a pair of jeggings and an oversize sweet shirt that fell off her tight shoulder showing the creamy caramel skin beneath it. She pulled her curly red ringlets up into a bun, slipped on her Ugg boots, and walked to her bedroom. Suddenly, the room felt cold, almost stifling and the door would not budge. No matter how hard she yanked on the knob or twisted it just would not open. Frowning she walked back to the balcony. "The door won't open. It's stuck. do you think you can help?"

(Callum)?

?

"Stuck, ye say?"? Callum frowned slightly.? The doors in the tower rooms were generally well-maintained.? "Ah'll be right up."

?

He felt the chill in the air as soon as he entered the tower staircase. It got worse the higher he went, until he stood before the door to Scheherzade's room where wisps of frost seemed to hover around the handle.? Even in his ethereal form, the laird could feel the malice radiating from the cold metal.

?

"Are ye alright, Mistress Sam?" Callum called out, alarmed.? It was Kirstene, for certain.? He didn't want to risk a direct confrontation if he could avoid it.? "Ah might should summon Callum.? He's the most handy at dealin' with... with problems like this."

Sam could feel the cold chill slowly, but surely start to take over her room. The fire was even starting to dim and she was starting to feel the the cold through her heavy clothing. ¡°I don¡¯t think Jaimie will come to help me. He and I we¡¯ll we had words and I think I might have offended him as much as he offended me. Maybe fine Braxton? He said he was going to get us something to eat. Maybe he¡¯s in the ?kitchen.¡±

The fire was even starting to dim and she was starting to feel the the cold through her heavy clothing. ¡°I don¡¯t think Jaimie will come to help me. He and I, well, we had words and I think I might have offended him as much as he offended me. Maybe find Braxton? He said he was going to get us something to eat. Maybe he¡¯s in the ?kitchen.¡±

(Callum)?

"Braxton?? Your friend from the states?"? Callum frowned.? He was reluctant to expose himself to more of the visitors than he absolutely had to, but this situation might call for it.? "Ah'll check the kitchen and see what ah can find."

?

When he got to the kitchen, the laird could hear a loud banging from from the pantry.? Which he noted had been locked.? From the outside.? "Dammitall, Jaimie," he muttered.? "What were ye thinking?"? Had it been Kirstene behind it, he reasoned, the consequences would've been more dire.

?

Callum hesitated.? It wouldn't do to have the American see him when in such an agitated state.? Concentrating, he slid the latch on the door back and then let it swing up from the pounding, vanishing from sight as he did so.

?

Braxton stumbled out when the door suddenly came loose and opened before him.? He looked around in anger but the kitchen was empty.? "What the living fuck is going on here?" he muttered.? Seeing no one he could question or yell at, he shook his head and then scrounged around the kitchen till he'd found sufficient bread and meat to make some decent sandwiches.? ?Placing the makings on a tray, he went back up the stairs to Sam's room.? But when he made to open the door, the handle was freezing to the touch and he jerked his hand back instinctively.

?

"Sam?" he called out, puzzled and concerned.? "I'm back, but there's something wrong with your door.? Are you alright?"

¡°Yes,¡± Sam said. ¡°He might be able to help¡Okay,¡± Sam said to him checking the kitchen. ¡°Maybe Jaimie can help, if he is still willing to help me.¡±

Sam tried a few things to get the door open. Sometimes it seemed like the door was about to open but nothing.A few short moments later, Braxton was at the door. ¡°I¡¯m okay but the door is stuck. How about you pull the door and I push. On the count of three okay?¡±
