They had always been difficult for her – from playing psychological games to outright torture, it was difficult for her to stomach. Vampires were the most difficult, because many were extremely tolerant of pain and were already slightly ‘touched’ in the head from their experiences after hundreds of years of life.

She nodded, “As you wish. What are my limitations in conducting this interrogation? I’m sure you know how Protectors question prisoners…so, how do you want me to proceed. Also, I’ll need the name of the accused, the circumstances of his or her detention and what evidence you have against them.”

"I am leaving it in your hands. Just know that the vampire?Elisiana is an older one. She may even be considered an ancient. Regular methods might not work on her. I will let you decide on how to get the answers I seek. She is the one who attempted to assassinate?me, tonight. Just after you left. Mikayla‘s mine was blown at what Angus was revealing. Could this really be true? Could he really like her? As Angus ?continue to speak, then it all made sense. Of course he didn’t like her. At least not in that way. Not in the way she was starting to like him.

He crossed the room and placed his hand on her cheek. "Tori, you know that I would do anything for you. I don't like to see you with pain in your eyes, dear sister." His hand moved to her neck and he pulled her into a warm embrace. "You want company on your run?" He asked her before ending the hug.

The Prince had recalled hearing about this Scarlett and what she had done in the past and that she had more than paid for it. He was impressed that she was trying to regain her foothold from a place that had spurned her. He paced in front of his desk at this point as he thought about what to do.

"I have no intentions of questioning or detaining you in regards to your past or the current situation. If you had meant me harm, you wouldn't have come through the front door." He stopped then in front of her and faced her. "Go down to the cells and get the prisoner to talk. Get her to tell you what she knows and who sent her. I trust you are capable?of handling that?"

So, that was a little bit harsh of a statement. They love us equally, you are just as much their daughter as I am their son." Colin took a breath and then continued.

"Father explained that it is more than just a betrothal between our family and another. Mother and father could be murdered if they do not fill this contract. It is a contract that they made in order to secure their positions in vampire society. If they don't fill it by the appointed date, then they are to be killed and everything they have worked to reach will be stripped from them, including our inheritance." He remembered walking in on their father and another vampire lord one time and the lord asked if they had a vampire daughter as well. His father said that no, they didn't and the Lord had said something about hoping there would be when the time came. "Remember all those hushed conversations that we had tried to over hear or walked into and they suddenly ended with other lords? I think that is what they were discussing. Mother did seem uncomfortable around certain lords when they came to visit or came for the balls."

He looked to Tori, "wonder what else we don't know about?" He asked suddenly wondering what other secrets had been kept from them. "They never really have told us what happened to our real parents."

She took a deep breathe. She just had to get through this conversation with him and then she would go out and run off this hurt.

When she was sure she could turn and keep that sadness out of her eyes, Victoria turned to him.

“I’m not dense Colin. I’ve been a part of this family my whole life. So I’m not unfamiliar with the politics of the vampire Council.?They need?a daughter to fulfill a betrothal contract. I’m a dog after all. Vincent and Chantel‘s pet project of mercy. An orphan that they so benevolently took in and raised as their own alongside their son. I’m not the right species to fulfill a such contract. So?There’s really nothing more that needs to be discussed.?I guess I should be happy that I’m not worthy of carrying on the family name. After taking a few sips of his own drink, the Prince spoke. "I see. Were you aware that an attempt was made on my life this very night. The one who was sent to assassinate?me is currently sitting in one of my jail cells. And that I have just finished speaking or rather being yelled at by the one who is her brother. Did you have anything to do with that attempt?" He remained calm for now, but was slowly loosing his patience with the new vampires in town. He wanted to know if Ms. Scarlett had anything to do with it and if her coming here to pledge her allegiance?was a decoy to another possible attempt. He moved to a location to ensure he wasn't in front of the window after making sure the curtains were drawn closed.

Scarlett was surprised they had captured a would-be assassin, but not surprised the prince was suspicious of her motives for coming here. It had occurred to her as she handed her weapons over at the front door, she still might end up getting blamed for any plot against the prince. Why not? She was an exile from the Vampire Nation because she had killed a True Born.?

She knew the risks when she walked into this place and asked to see the prince. So, there was no reason to feign surprise or become indignant at the accusation.

"No, my prince. I did not," Scarlett said. "I understand why you must be cautious, and I will yield to any questioning or detention you deem necessary to get to the bottom of this. My full cooperation. But I assure you I have no quarrel with you or the council. My past transgressions have been addressed and I have endured exile as the result. I would not come back here and put myself in danger if I was not trying to recompense for the past. So, tell me what I must do to earn your trust."

She had spent plenty of years in service to the council of the Vampire Nation, so she knew the proper protocols, though after all these years in exile it felt awkward. Still, she was trying to rebuild once burned bridges and hoped to make an ally of the new prince.

After bowing, she nodded to his question, "A drink? Yes, please your highness."?Once she'd taken the glass from the prince, thanking him for it, Scarlett proceeded with her story.

"A short time ago I received a call from an unknown person who said they wanted me to kill you. They deposited funds in my account and promised more upon?competition?of the job. Despite my refusal, they?persisted,?and I told them they would have my answer in 24 hours."

Unsure how this news set with Prince Vespasian, Scarlett quickly continued, "I come to you with this news with hope you will be able to make use of it to find out who is seeking to kill you, my prince. I am also here to pledge my allegiance to you and to offer any assistance I can to find this individual."

He wouldn't push the matter if she didn't want to know, but felt that she should know the circumstances behind the reason.

The two headed to the pub to have a drink. Once seated and mugs in hand, Draven spoke. "Khadashee said I should try and talk to you. So, this is me trying." He took a sighing breath before continuing. "Where did you get onto my ship?"

Damon was glad for a woman's influence at this time. "When you were docked in Port Vega a couple of weeks ago."

"You managed to stay hidden for two weeks." Draven made a mental note that he would have a word with his deck hands.?

"Yes, it wasn't an easy task. I think your first mate suspected long before I was discovered. You should think about stowing your smaller boats in a different manner." Damon said as he took a drink.

Draven thought about that before continuing. "Well regardless if we are related or not, I have had time to consider you. I am willing to offer you a spot on the crew, let you prove yourself. Are you willing to work hard and show you are loyal? Are you willing to accept and take orders?"

Damon, "I too have had time to think on things. We are related, but I know that I must earn your trust. I am willing to accept all that you are offering, Captain."

With a nod and a raised mug, Ammon, "Good. Welcome aboard the Serenity." They both finished their mugs of ale and asked for a refill.

A rather built man appeared. "This the chic seeking an audience with Prince Vespasian?" He asked Amethyst. With a nod and a wink she turned back to the other customers.

"Follow me then. He is in his office." He told Scarlett and started heading out of the club and lead her down a few hallways that took many turns in many different directions, before finally stopping in front of a door. He knocked three times. "Enter." He opened the door. "Someone to see you Prince." The man said and stepped aside for Scarlett to enter.

"Ah, Ms.?MacAleister, do come in. That will be all, Bruce." With a nod, Bruce left, closing the door leaving Scarlett with the Prince. "May I get you a drink? What news do you bring me?"

Hollywood had stepped up to Ari and actually reached out to touch his arm to make sure she wasn't seeing things. She could hear the Prince pacing in his office and heard him say, "where is she?"

"Hold on, hold that answer. I must see what the Prince needs before he comes looking for me. Head down the hall, take the next right. Follow that until you come to a T, then go left. This will lead you to the armory. Wait for me there. Just tell who ever may ask, that I sent you." She blinked again then turned to head into the office. She glanced at him one more time before closing the door.

Once inside she listened to the Prince tell her to get the very vampire she had just ran into out of the building and out of the compound. She gave him a hardy, aye, aye and then left the office.

She returned to the armory, quickly to find Ari waiting for her. "He wants me to remove you. But for now, what are you doing here? How are you here? Where is Eli?"

”Hollywood?” He repeated. When she took his arm he placed his hand over hers. “I should ask you that. Is it really you?”

At her instructions he nodded. “Okay.” He said then following her directions to the armory. As he waited her paced. Lina…he couldn’t believe it. He had never stopped trying to find her. Even when Eli told him he was a fool.

When she came in he smiled. “I’m not surprised. Your prince ?is stubborn to a fault.”

When she asked her question she smirked. “You mean he didn’t tell you, it’s a long story. I am Praetor in the Archon now Hollywood. and I came to pay my respects to your newly awaken Prince. While here there was an attempt on his life. That attempt was made by Eli. I know there is something more going on, but he will not hear. We had words and now he wants me gone. Hmm…I guess it wasn’t that long.”
