Re: William James SYKES and Hannah ATKINSON
开云体育Hi Lin, I’ve had a crack at this with not a lot more luck than you! I checked the marri entry on Ancestry which showed his occupation as a collier and his residence as Great Houghton in Barnsley. There is a census entry on Findmypast in 2861 for a James with wife Hannah in Kirkburton but he is a stay weaver and Hannah a stay maker so not an obvious match. No children but James’s sister is also there. She is a milliner. James’s age is 26 and Hannah is 24. I see no contradiction with the ages at marriage assuming that the marriage age really means “over 21”.?Good luck, Peter On 20 May 2024, at 18:00, Lin Duke <dml5481@...> wrote:

Re: William James SYKES and Hannah ATKINSON
开云体育Hi Lin,I have had an in depth look for this family in 1861 census using a variety of search patterns and can not find them anywhere. Find my past tells us that there are some missing parts of the 1861 census for Yorkshire, so if they were living in those areas they will not appear on the census.? This is from the list: (First column is Piece Number)
Sorry I could not help more.? These families that change their names are so frustrating! Cheers Wendy On 21/05/2024 12:00 am, Lin Duke via

Westgate Baptist Chapel, Rotherham Joseph BROWN
Hello, I am trying to locate the headstones for the graves of my gr gr gr grandparents Joseph BROWN (born Greasbrough 1792-1875) and Mary BROWN (nee TWIBY, born Bradgate 1796-1858). They were at the front entrance to the Westgate Baptist Chapel in Cranklow Lane Rotherham until about 1968-1970 when the building was sold. I have contacted numerous organisations to no avail. Would anyone know where they were moved to? They are the very prominent headstones to the left of the entrance. (I have a photo of the chapel for anyone who may be able to help.)

Ideas wanted to overcome a brick wall please
Hi everyone Hope you are all well.? I'm wondering if you have any ideas on what I might do next to see if I can finally demolish a very long standing brick wall.? I'm looking for the marriage of Robert WELDRAKE and Susannah pre 1708, the baptism of Robert (she died 1737, he died in 1743), the baptism of Thomas WELDRAKE pre 1708 and same for Joseph WELDRAKE who died in 1752 in Littletown (it seems to say batch (batchelor?) in his record which is very unusual.)? Robert and Susannah have a child (John) baptised in Birstall near Huddersfield in 1708 - they live in Hightown/Long Liversedge. There was a Quaker meeting house there but no record of them being Quakers. I've checked the land registry at Wakefield from 1704 (not yet gone through it prior to that as it's not indexed - does anyone know how that could be searched? Would it be by location?) and Birstall manorial court records 1698-1711 (no settlement certificates.)? Thomas WELDRAKE - most likely their son - marries in Birstall in 1739 and moves to Hunslet with children born there from 1740. He's a clothier and he and his family are removed from Hunslet to Birstall in 1747 which the poor law authorities then admit was a mistake (court case). The family return as Thomas died in Hunslet in 1750 and is buried in Leeds.? Does that imply he had settlement rights in Hunslet from birth or did he qualify from some other means?? I've researched every instance I can find of W(H)ELDRAKE/DRICK (and 40 plus variations including HILDRICK/HILDRAKE/HILDRITH and HILDREY (mostly north Yorks but a HILDRAKE in Howden became WELDRAKE) across Yorkshire from medieval to present times and elsewhere.? As most lines either die out or can be traced on and eliminated my best guess is a connection to the WELDRAKES nearby in Monk Fryston in the 1600s but I'm keeping an open mind. A Thomas?WELDRAKE born in Monk Fryston in 1651 has a daughter Margaret buried in 1694. Robert and Susanna had a daughter Margaret. If R&S followed a naming pattern then Thomas could be Robert's father and it's possible?Thomas's grandfather was called Robert. It's the only line (apart from one man in Selby) with a Robert.? I can't find Monk Fryston Thomas's marriage or the baptism of any children (just the burial record for Margaret) in Monk Fryston or Sherburn in Elmet (WELDRAKES there.) Any ideas on the best nearby parishes to search or other records that might help please?? Thanks in hope! Jane Researching W(H)ELDRAKE/DRICK?- any variation, anywhere, anytime |

RN HMS Forest Moor
A friend forwarded this to me, knowing my interest in the subject and activity on various military sites but just thought there might be someone here with some connection to the site who could fill in some gaps in their knowledge. ? ? ? The RN Communications Branch Museum has had a request from the GCHQ Historian for information on the site and operations, equipment, etc. at Blubberhouses North Yorkshire ?that eventually became HMS Forest Moor. I wonder if you could ask your contacts and/or publish the request in your NL/ on websites in case ?someone has info tucked away and would like to share it. ?I will forward anything passed ?to me to Q, giving the correspondent ?full credit, of course ? I currently have slim info? ? It was an RN Wireless Station in the 1920s and controlled RX at Flowerdown ? it was a Y station in WW2 ?the ATS Special Wireless Ops who worked there were billeted in Harrogate ? The Y station passed ?info to Beaumanor ? It became the main HF receiving site for the RN in the 1960s and closed down in the early 2000s ? ? Thanks for your help ? ? ? ? ? ?
