Locked Re: Sandhill Cranes

Sandhill Cranes at Willow? Lake this morning.? Viewed from south shore, cottonwood grove.? Cranes were foraging in a tight group to the west-southwest.? They stood upright when an adult Bald Eagle flew over, but then returned to feeding.? First saw at 11:25, still there at 12:05 when I left.

Locked American Tree Sparrow

Just an update to say that the American Tree Sparrow is still at Badger Springs Wash. This morning, it was in the regularly reported spot, just up the wash from the trailhead, where someone has marked the point in the wash with two crossed sticks.

Locked Sandhill Cranes

I was at Willow Lake this afternoon. The Sandhill Cranes were very visible foraging to the east of Cottonwood Peninsula along the current west shore of the main lake.

Along the trail/road that goes south of the peninsula, there was a porcupine perched in a tree on the west side of the trail. A photographer there said there are actually three porcupines.

Locked American Tree Sparrow at Agua Fria NM Badger Springs

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi all,

The American Tree Sparrow that has been wintering at the Badger Springs Wash in the Agua Fria National Monument continues today. ?A good county/AZ bird to start off the New Year! ?The bird is loosely associating with some White-crowned Sparrows and is mostly foraging in the weeds along the wash. ?I¡¯ve seen it in the same general area the times I¡¯ve look for it which is North/upwash about 1/4 mile from where the trail intersects the wash.

Forwarding some info from Rich Armstrong of Sedona.? He reports?that he tried to bird the Yavapai portion of Lake Pleasant today, only to find that it is closed off on weekdays and only accessible?on Friday through?Sunday.? No info on how long that closure is in effect.?
So, plan accordingly if you are following sightings from Lake Pleasant.?

Locked Hybrid Ross's x Snow Goose

After birding this morning with Felipe Guerrero at Willow Lake, I examined my photos and found that what we first thought was a Ross's Goose was actually a Ross's x Snow Goose hybrid. Relative to the Ross's?ideal, this bird had a longer neck, longer bill, rounded base to the bill, and small grinning patch. See Sibley (2nd Ed.) p. 11. Also had Greater White-fronted Geese, Snow Geese, Tundra Swans, a pelican, 3 Horned Grebes, and a lot more. See eBird post.

Locked Rufous-backed Robin

There is a? Rufus -backed Robin on Tarra Avenue at the north end where it turns into a cul-de-sac and dead ends. This is a small neighborhood near the Willow Watson roundabout and it has lots of no trespassing signs. I saw the bird from the North end of the road at the cul-de-sac.? You will see a small ditch with water and a thick hedge on the east side.?

Locked Chino Recharge Ponds

I suspect these ponds are the only water around. Good for raptors, with two Ferruginous hawks, one Prairie Falcon, a kestrel, a harrier, and of course a red tail.

Locked On Watson Lake, near the Dam

This morning, I observed a lone male Common Goldeneye, while looking for (and not finding) the reported Long-tailed Duck.? Perhaps other goldeneye were further down the lake; this location required a good scope.?
