Re: Delay time

I think that delay time and a bunch of other things can be controlled via MIDI cc messages from a set of MIDI faders, for example. I used that a lot, especially on filter sweeps.(both qy100 and qy70)

Re: Delay time

sysex. and it's wicked. eric moderator did a mapping for remoteSL in the Files section. it's a bit extensive but you can extract what you need. really rocks the QY, especially if you stick to the main synth waveforms.

Re: Yamaha qy70 + beatstep pro

go dig in the menus, it's quite easy really. i think it's under 'insert event'. you could then capture/copy the syx message and put it on the remoteSL. yamaha sysex is pretty good, no checksum for XG stuff. set up a bank of buttons to switch off the channels u want to send out to external.

Re: Yamaha qy70 + beatstep pro

How? I don't understand sysex mindthough I've not gone down that rabbit hole yet?

Re: Yamaha qy70 + beatstep pro

oh you could program it into the remoteSL ...

Re: Yamaha qy70 + beatstep pro

this is a real shame about QY70/100: there's no midi channel on/off parameter. you have to enter a sysex message - thankfully pre-listed - in the Song mode, and 'run' the song to activate the message - and then you can go into Pattern mode and have your chosen midichannel outs turned off. ihaven't done this for a long time, and it's one of the reasons i'm more likely to use the RM1x these days (but still have a QY100).
i don't think there's any other way to do it? love to know if there is.

and... i was thinking it could be cool to do a Ctrlr panel for this and various other QY70/100 stuff ...

Yamaha qy70 + beatstep pro

It's amazing how it routes itself to the drum track... But how do I silence midi channels when I wanna play other synths... I get the drum triggering... This usually happens when I run it thru the Quadra or the remote sl as well.

How do I stop the midi Sigal from triggering when trying to play other synths?

Thank you all for your help with this query - some really useful suggestions

The QY100 generally draws (at most) about 500 mA. ?However, most of the time it draws a lot less¡ It depends on what you¡¯re doing and how hard you¡¯re pushing it (number and complexity of tracks, effects, etc) as well as how loud the volume is set. ?You should be able to power two of them with a standard QY100 power supply with no problem about 90% of the time¡ again providing a your not pushing both of the QYs to the max. ?Worst case scenario you¡¯re going to burn up the power supply, the QY itself would probably just shut down or reset itself (power cycle).

Note: Overdrawing a power supply has the potential to cause a fire, it¡¯s not likely, but it is possible, so be advised.

?

Best idea is to buy a stronger power supply and a splitter:

With a power supply, when it comes to current (amps) having more than you need is not a problem, you just want to make sure the voltage and the polarity are correct. With that said, the standard QY100 power supply is 10volts, but I have used plenty that are 12volts without any issue (and 12volt power supplies are much easier to find).

I would recommend the largest power supply you can accommodate (that does not have a fan). ?Generally a switching power supply will be smaller and more portable verses a transformer-type power supply. You should be able to find one online that goes up to 5 amps without requiring a fan. Basically a switching power supply without a fan will look much like a laptop power supply with the brick part in the middle (which is alot easier to work with).

Example:?
(Note: Confirm with seller that this is a standard DC barrel jack (5.5mm x 2.1mm) and that the polarity is Center Positive)

Then you just need a barrel jack splitter which come in a variety of sizes from 1-to-2 to 1-to-8, for a 5 amp power supply you wouldn¡¯t want to go much beyond a 1-to-5 splitter since each QY100 could draw upto about 1 amp under heavy use (actually maxes out at less than 1 amp, but that gives you a nice margin of safety to not burnout the power supply with 5 QY100s running at power). ?Again, just make sure it is female to multiport male and the barrel sizes are 5.5mm x 2.1mm. (Polarity and voltage is only an issue in regards to the power supply, not the splitter).

Example:?
? ? ?(1 Female to 4 male barrel jack splitter).

The only issue with these multi splitters is that sometimes the cords are rather short from the point where they split¡ and you need them all to be long enough to separate the QY100, so you may need to buy a few male to female extender cord for each QY100).

By purchasing something like the examples above, you would be able to accommodate two QYs and still have some extra jacks and enough amps to power additional equipment (or more QYs).

Hope this helps,
Eric

Re: Daisy Chaining QY100

Here¡¯s a link or two that might help.?

Video shows playing the Showcase at full volume.?

.286 A @ 12 V

So it sounds like 1A would be plenty for 2.

Hope this helps.?

I've managed 2 and any pair of TG300, MU90R and QY100 works. Add a third and they all go off. No harm done, however.

Hi has anyone Daisy chained more than 1 QY100 from a single?power supply? I use 2 or 3 QY100 when playing live and rather than use 3 separate PA130B 12v / 700ma power supplies.?I am thinking about Daisy chaining rather like 9v guitar effect pedals. . I guess the question is how much maximum?current does a single?QY100 draw? Any tips gratefully received

2 Amps should do it. but better get a 3amps power supply.

my 2c is yes its worth 200 bucks.
I have a yamaha qy300 that I adore. got that for a similar price. worth every penny.

Hi,
?
Welcome to the group!
?
There has been a lot of discussion about back lights and the different types that can be installed internally and externally¡ Take a look at the forum search utility for more information there¡¯s also several uploads in the files and pictures section.

Also from my understanding there is quite a bit involved in a the file output proprietary to the QY. ?It is pretty much undocumented by Yamaha but there are a few threads about it as well with some basic information.
?
Cheers,
Eric

Brahim new member !

Hi all

As I just bought a Yamaha QY70 (second-hand, Carousell, Singapore)
I thought I would introduce myself to the group to share my interests.

From what I read on manual there are a lot of System Exclusive (SYSEX)
messages to request/dump data from/to the QYs. I feel it would be useful
to develop some tools for the QYs users to load/save and edit songs,
patterns, styles, etc. Development would be done using Qt to have
multi-platform support (Win/Linux/Mac) and push to my github.
I use Win10 and Linux Ubuntu.

The LCD of my QY70 is very dimmed even with contrast at maximum.
With a electronics background, I was please to read someone suggesting
some sort of video output (VGA with scaling for e.g. ). Studying the QYs
schematics from service manuals, I could imagine a solution with a FPGA
that would receive LCD driver chip (T6963C for the QY) commands and
would render to a VGA monitor. Some interesting future hacking ! First
step is probably to replace my QY70 lcd with a more recent one possibly
with backlight !

Please don't hesitate to suggest things to do in software/hardware !

Best regards

I am fairly certain the QY70/100 have 16 song and 8 pattern tracks where as the QY700 has 32 song and 16 pattern tracks (48 tracks total)¡ as well as an extra midi port (or two, I can¡¯t recall).

Absolutely true! Thanks for the correction Eric. I meant the 16 + 8 was on the 100, and I listed it as 700.

¡±By real-time I mean to record in a loop, in any track, without stopping the playback. I can record any track on the QY members, but MUST press ?the stop button after each recording and that stops the sequencer, no matter if it is in pattern or song mode.¡±

Just wanted to point out that ?In pattern mode you can set the pattern length from 1 to eight measures and then Record in overdub mode and it will loop the entire pattern so you can add notes in real time while looping¡without stopping¡ however you are limited to one track at a time. ?

Unfortunately, ?to change tracks do you need to hit stop, change track, and hit record again.

I can¡¯t recall for certain, but I¡¯m *pretty sure* with an external midi controller connected you can actually perform other functions while recording in the above pattern loop/overdub mode¡ Such as modifying cutoff and resonance on the currently armed track¡ ?The QY itself doesn¡¯t allow you to do this because it doesn¡¯t let you change screens once you record and you have to start recording in screen one in pattern mode¡ ?On a side note: ?I *think* this restriction is mainly because there¡¯s not enough processing power to handle the interface at the same time as the instrument recording (without incurring latency) ?¡ on the other hand, it could be some type of arbitrary limitation (like a lot of manufacturers place on equipment to save features for a theoretical successor product).

In any case, you might even be able to play (affect) some of the other instrument tracks (with midi channel set to all) while recording with an external midi controller but I¡¯m not sure if those would actually get recorded¡ ?it¡¯s been a while since I hooked up my midi controller to the QY100.

The thing is, for all the power of the QY (which is a ton for such a portable device) there is a even more power/flexibility accessible once an external controller is connected¡ IMHO, Yamaha XG has always excelled in including a vast MIDI implementation on the QY70/QY100¡ (heck, they even have a MIDI implementation to allow you to modify the QY70/100 screen display at the pixel level, lol).

Re: Yamaha QY300

Fairly certain that the outs can be routed via the interface to act as ¡°thru¡± as well (but again I¡¯m not 100% certain..only about 80% certain, lol.).
Yes they do! and will send any midi in to the port/channel configured as the selected track even on standby.
