Re: DX7IIFD Manuals and Documentation.

Massive thanks to JB for providing 09_Advanced_MIDI_Applications.pdf

(For some reason I cannot see his reply here although I did receive an email.)

Re: DX7IIFD Manuals and Documentation.

Here's #9. The others are still missing.

Hi all

I'm also still looking for these PDF's from the DX Supplemental Booklets set, I don't suppose they've turned up? I can't seem to locate them online either.

Re: DX7IIFD Manuals and Documentation.

I can't see the last couple of replies on the website, which is how I prefer to reply.? It remains to be seen if/when this reply reaches anyone.

Perhaps the website is buggy, or this group is strictly moderated, with no one at the helm?

I'm not an admin of the group, but it seems anyone can upload files, so I've made a folder of the booklets I have, including the new 9th one (thanks, Jeremy).? They should now be here:

/g/YamahaDX/files/DX7II%20Supplemental%20Booklets

I think I started indexing a couple of them, by adding bookmarks.? I use Foxit Reader 3.something, but the bookmarks seem to be compatible with other PDF readers.

For the DX7II - "ADP-1"For sale

Please remove if not permitted:

I sold my DX7II-FD a long time ago (Still have a TX-7 and FS-1R).
I have an ADP-1 (adapter for original DX7 cartridges to be used with "DX7-II" versions).
It's in great shape. ? $50 or best offer? (you pay shipping).
I don't have a need for this any longer, nor do I feel the need to charge the high prices that ebay wants for this adapter.?? I'm in Milwaukee.

Thanks.

Robert

DX7ii patches

Hi everyone, I did a fun little project where I adapted the factory patches from the DX5 so they'll play on the DX7iiFD. They both are bi-timbral and have performance memory, it was a natural fit.
Demo below with link to patches.

Re: DX7II,S series ROM cartridge

Thank You Andy!
Fortunately, the ROM cards are more simple than this RAM card.

Some NAND gates and the (EP)ROM chip itself with resistors on data and address lines.

Thank You!!

Re: DX7II,S series ROM cartridge

The schematics might be in one of the synth service manuals. I know they did that with the early cartridges.

Thanks Bruce. I’m still using the half moon switches and some other items I bought from you and they are working flawlessly! Have one more question.

I need a laptop to replace my iPad, don’t want to carry around my 21.5” iMac and I do want an Apple product. Would a MacBook Air be a good choice to use with my DX and my Behringer XR18?

Re: DX7II,S series ROM cartridge

... I meant to say, I've added the pictures to the Photos section.? The album is here:

Re: DX7II,S series ROM cartridge

I've added internal pictures of my Supra-RAM 256 DX7II cartridge (4 banks, selectable from the System menu).

Re: DX7II,S series ROM cartridge

Thank You Daniel!

No problem, i will try to track based on internal images.
I will post here, if something succeeds.

Thanks!

I'd like to ask, has anyone managed to track down the schematics of these rom cards?
I found some internal pictures for them, and i'd try to track,
but if anyone else has done it ... :)

Thank You in advance!

I think you need a DX7-II or TX802 to do all 9 waves in a 2-sound layer.? The best that a Gen 1 DX7 can do is six operators in parallel.? And if you want to emulate key click, the best algorithm is #24, which allows Op 6 to modulate Op 3,4,5 -- and only provides five sine outputs.

That said, many classic Hammond sounds use 5 or less drawbars.

For the OP, though:? I think it's a moot point:? he said he has an SK1-73, which has a far better Hammond simulation than could ever be coaxed out of a DX7!

If you can find patch lists for downloadable sound banks, there's one I placed into my bank called Jumpies that sounds right for the stuff EVH used on 1984.
Also note that the DX7 can be configured so there's nine sine waves, so it'll do useful drawbar simulations. (This was covered in a Keyboard Magazine item some time ago)

Thank to everyone for the great information. The other thing is how to hook the DX to a computer, and, Mac is my preference since I own an iMac and an iPad. I also may purchase a MacBook Air or Pro for this and some other jobs. I also have iConnectMIDI which I’m pretty sure will make the connection since it has USB, midi and lightning connectors. Now to start reading the great stuff you guys sent and getting things going. My main program to load or dial in the the OBX sound Van Halen uses on Jump. One of the bands I play with is doing a Van Halen tribute set in 4 weeks and I would like to use the DX instead of my SK1-73.

Re: "Jump"

This YouTuber has a tutorial to make a jump brass, and also some great overall tutorials on how to generate basic sounds. This patch and a chorus pedal might get you close...
