Re: FC40 connecting cable

Thanks to everyone - I have an 8-pin mini-din 2m male to male straight through cable, cut it and spliced the ends onto a approx. 40m cat5e cable, and it seems to work fine.

I bought several on Amazon ¡°8-pin mini-din male to male¡± in lengths up to 20 feet.? They¡¯re cheap.

But that's no longer than the supplied cable, and if it really works for Apple it won't work for FC40, or if it works for FC40 it doesn't work directly for an Appletalk. It's a plug on both ends so can't work as an extension cabel.

It's only 10 ft, the supplied cables are 4.9m which is about 16 feet.

Re: FC40 connecting cable

I bought an Appletalk extension cable, as that is 1:1 and socket to plug. I think the regular plug to plug Apple talk cables "cross-over" so are no good for the FC40.

Re: FC40 connecting cable

Many thanks - that is helpful.

Bill,

After looking at the FT-857 and FC-40 schematics, I see that the DIN-8 cable is straight-through.?

Hi, recently got an FC40. As you know the connecting 8 way cable is short, and I'm going to make another much longer one.
My simple question is - how is the cable wired - is it just straight through (ie pin 1 to pin 1 etc?). I bought an 8 way AV cable with the correct mini din plugs (so I don't have to wire up these fiddly plugs - I've done it in the past but it is so easy to melt them!). The AV cable is wired straight through but I don't really want to try it without knowing!
I can of course check and compare with an ohm-meter but would appreciate comments please.
Cheers!

Subject: [YaesuTuner] Looking for Yeasu tun/lin TTL protocol

?

Hey guys, here is some history to help understand my need;

in the ft8X7 and ft100 radios Yaesu was offering a mini din 8 pin connector that had 3 functions, CAT TTL, TUNER, LINEAR, through simple config in the radio, this is actually back in FT710 that brought back CAT3 via TUN/LIN minidin8 connector.

between the these two groups of radios they dropped the CAT TTL function of the TUN/LIN mini din connector for a separate RS232 connector, ?part of that minidin8 TUN/LIN connector dual usage is a simple TTL connection using the same pin out as the CAT TTL as for the ft8X7 connector.

I am looking for the commonly used TTL ?communication protocol to control the linear via the TUN/LIN minidin8 connector.

let me be clear I am NOT looking for the Yeasu CAT protocol, I don¡¯t think (could be wrong?) they use there CAT COMMANDS for this?

let me know.

specific info on the link specification (speed, etc¡) would also help me.

Re: Looking for Yeasu tun/lin TTL protocol

Thanks Chris, I am aware of the diff between RS232 and TTL, if you have a chance please look in the support section of my website WWW.VE2DX.COM?for my Whitepaper called TrueTTL.

I need TTL connection for some of my Yeasu oriented projects, I am hoping the Yaesu Protocol used over TTL on the TUN/LIN connector might be usable for my needs? But can¡¯t find any documentation on it, and no it isn¡¯t CAT, except on the FT8X7, FT100, and FT710 when properly configured, all other radios don¡¯t support CAT on that connector even if it is EVERYWHERE!?!

Re: Looking for Yeasu tun/lin TTL protocol

The RS-232 connector presents the same information except it's not TTL. TTL stands for transistor-transistor logic and has generally referred to using 5 volt logic levels. Most ham radio implementations are actually open collector pulled to ground.
?
It's still a Yaesu CAT interface.

The band data signal is the same for the FT-450D and FT-991A. I recently?built a cable for my yaesu rigs that is working. The band select table is listed at the top-right of the diagram. Note that the signal is 5 volts. This may allow you to track down which coil/capacitor combination is at fault.

  1. When these two radios are in the ¡°Tuner¡± mode, do they send band data to the FC-40 or some other kind of control data?
  2. Is it possible that a pin (or two) on the control cable could fail that would cause it to not tune the lower bands?
  3. If I have to take it down from my tree, I would prefer to troubleshoot the problem myself before sending it to you.? So can you recommend looking at any specific components that might cause this kind of fault, i.e., a specific capacitor or relay or something?
