On Vacation with a FC-40/FT-897 in 3B8
Dear all, I am just back from a vacation to 3B8, Mauritius and want to share my experience with the FC-40: I had a small bungaloo with space for an antenna and checked this in advance with the hotel.

Re: Long Loop (80m) gives "high swr" warnings on several bands - why?
Hi Kyle, sorry long delay - work issues in the office - Basically, connect a balanced feedline (openwire, ladderline) but NOT coax to the ATU. One side to the wire connector, the other to ground. I

Long Loop (80m) gives "high swr" warnings on several bands - why?
Hi folks, after moving to FINLAND where its very cold now, I put up a longwire loop of approx 84 metres of wire. Its fed with 300-ohms radioshack line. The tuner WON'T tune this on the lower bands

Re: Hi SWR on 40 meters
Bob, You could try two things: 1. Put about five turns of coax about 5 inches in diameter at the base of the antenna. 2. Put a few turns ( 10 X 1" ) of #14 gage wire at the base of the antenna. I'm

Re: Hi SWR on 40 meters
The Ham Stick has inductance. Add a few turns of coil at the base of the antenna. OR improve the bumper to chassis ground. or Both. Make sure the tuner is close to the base of the antenna. Bob Lancon

Hi SWR on 40 meters
Just installed the Ft-857D, FC-40, Hustler bumper strap mount and 102" SS Whip in my truck. It works on all bands but 40 meters (high SWR) I have tried extra lenght of coax added to the supplied coax.
