Re: Couple of questions
I'm using the Kenwood SP-31. Good idea with the potentiometer. Will give it a try. [email protected]> wrote:

External speaker with a potentiometer inline. I¡¯m actually using an Icom speaker (wash ya mouth out) with a custom vero board. Considerably better sound than the internal speaker. De Spence M0STO

Re: Couple of questions
Got everything fixed up yesterday even made a few 6m contacts on the A3S! Now I need to build a 6m beam. Up first is the volume control mod, not the resistor one. That is annoying not being able to

Hi Greg, Simple homebrew keying circuit using an optocoupler. One for the PTT and one for CW. I think I've got the CW side solved (was using a mono plug on the 850, but have to use a stereo plug on

Re: Couple of questions
The TRS Data jack (vs the DIN one) combines the PTT and audio in (for transmitting) on the Tip of that TRS plug. You need a 2k-ish resistor between the tip and the PTT line, and a DC blocking

Re: Couple of questions
Hi Greg How do I specially key from the data jack?

Re: Couple of questions
Commanding PTT with the CAT interface takes the audio from the Mike input, not the Data jack. You have to key the rig from the specific port the audio is coming from, or you'll get silence. Greg KO6TH

Re: Couple of questions
Okay, so I am making some progress. CAT is wired and working, and RX audio from the radio is getting to the computer and being decoded. I am still not getting any TX tones from the computer into the

Thanks Greg, I'll take another look at my wiring. I've built homebrew interfaces for years and never had this type of problem. Max

Re: Couple of questions
You must have a short somewhere, likely tip to something else. PTT occurs when the tip of the plug gets pulled toward ground. If there's nothing on the other end of the cable, then both the cap and

Nope, just what's outlined in the manual for connecting the audio signals to the data jack.

Hi Max are using a signalink ? And you refer to a capacitor and resistor is that for the inside of the signalink ? Did you make up the cable yourself ? One end rj45 the other end stereo 3.5mm plug Tex

Re: Couple of questions
I may just end up going the front mic jack method. I have a headset already wired and I don't mind swapping for digital modes when needed. Spend most of the time on digital anyway. Anything special

Re: Couple of questions
Thanks Andrew I tried the cap and resistor method as outlined in the manual, put the radio still goes into TX mode as soon as I plug it into the data jack. Even with the audio lines on the other end

Re: Couple of questions
Hi Max, I found that an extremely easy way to get set up on the digital modes with the 847 while waiting for components to build the proper data/PTT cable was to use a RIGblaster nomic:

Greg, Thank you very much. My FT-847 is in the serial number range of 8K15xxxx so it is well after the 8G05xxxx mentioned in the link you provided. 73, Bill, W9MXQ Sent: Wednesday, July 06, 2022 11:58

Re: Couple of questions
The issue was that the earlier version of the radio had a 1-way CAT interface (computer to rig only). See: https://mail-01.amsat.org/archives/amsat-bb/200811/msg00082.html Greg KO6TH William Shadid

What Tom said. It's the way many HTs are keyed as well. I built a cable harness roughly similar to what Ian described, hooking it to a Raspberry Pi 4B with a USB audio dongle. The PTT side of things
