October party update and request..
Hi everyone!? FYI, registrations are good at this point, with about six weeks to go.? Just enough for a small party, and registrations usually increase exponentially the closer we get. That said, there's still plenty of room, and I believe a bit more, the merrier! Please consider mentioning the York County Star Party to your freinds, clubs, and newsletter editors.? All they need is the link and the current dates: yorkcountystarparty.org Lancaster County, PA October 3-6, 2024. ? I see several friends have already registered, and this can only happen with your continued support.? Depending on turnout, October may be used more often. Thank you everyone, hope to see YOU there! Re: Public Perseids watch at Susquehannock State Park tonight 10pm to 12am
Hi Prasad.? I agree.? I was never informed of it.? I happened to be looking at their website and noticed this in their activities, just before I posted it on the group. I will ask how it went.? If it started at 10pm for 2 hours, I wonder how many people made the trip, and also wonder about the headlights during that time. Re: Security lighting on maintenance building - can this be mitigated?
Hi Dave, thanks for asking, and letting me know you enjoyed it.? Good news.. I got full cooperation this year after some fuss.? ALL LIGHTS ARE NOW COVERED.? Better yet, they straightened that darn pole light, which was the biggest culprit. Also, thanks for registering.? Looking forward to seeing you both (and your 2 dogs) again! BTW, registration has been strong since I opened it up 4 days ago? That's very encouraging! Hi Phil, ? My wife and I enjoyed the party in June 2023, but the one thing I noted last time out was that the DCNR had some large vehicle maintenance buildings with bright security lighting that impacted the northern view.? Is there any chance they would give you the authority to turn off those lights, at least the ones facing the observing field?? Or perhaps cover / shield them with some red filters? ? Thanks Dave |

Star party
Here is the notice I sent out to the 60mm Telescope Club:
Okay everyone it is official, The 60mm Telescope Club Star Party will be from Thursday October 3rd to Sunday October 6th at Susquehannock State Park in Pennsylvania. This is a beautiful park is located along the banks of the Susquehanna river surrounded by Amish farms. Even though we are combining with the York County Star Party, the park is actually located in Lancaster County. I have been going to this park for years and although it's not Cherry Springs it does have dark skies and I have seen most all Messiers from this field with a 60. The Milky Way is naked eye. Registration will be up soon and I'd like everyone to know there will be a $5.00 discount for all 60mm Telescope Members. I will send a link just as soon as it is up. The star party will be located on a large softball field. Camping will be right there on the field except for large RVs which must set up in the parking lot across the street. There will be a solar charging station set up for charging batteries and even a backup generator. I encourage anyone who have old astronomy equipment and would like to sell it to bring it along, I hope to have a swap meet on Saturday. If anyone would like to give a talk we would be delighted, just let me know. Hope to see you there. Pete Kellermann Mediator |
2024 FALL PARTY DATES: OCTOBER 3-6 (Thursday TO Sunday)
Hello everybody!? The October dates have been approved and confirmed:? October 3-6, 2024.
?
I've been updated much of the main YCSP website, made some changes and corrections.
?
The registration page has been activated.? We are currently about 10 weeks from the start of the Fall party.
?
The solar power I am supplying was more than sufficient for the June party, so we can offer basic charging, and I also have a lithium battery auto jumper and a small generator if needed.? ?
?
I am planning on attempting informal talks, depending on daytime pavilion availability, and the weather.? Anyone that has a short talk available, please contact me to discuss the situation, this may not be a rain or shine activity. ?Depends on whether the pavilion is available or not. ?I don't want anyone going to a lot of effort if the talks get scrubbed.??
?
That's it for now.? Have a fun and safe summer, everyone.? FYI, my understanding is that the newest Covid booster becomes available by the end of August.? Darn thing mutates like the flu.? I'll probably get that shot, too.
Thanks for your continued support!
Phil

Hi everyone!? The next star party is good to go!? As Jeremy Carlo stated last week, it is one of the best times to observe, and can have good camping weather, too.? Last time i did October, it was the most comfortable camping ive done in years. It may be a good alternative to using September in the future. I'll send another notice when it IS open, and further updates as is warrented.? I try not to send too many.? Many of us get more emails than we want. Thank you all for your continued support. Have a safesummer.? Hope to see you in October. Phil |
Re: Star Party
That sounds terrific, Pete, and greatly appreciate combining forces.? The dates have been conditionally approved, i need to complete formal paperwork asap before I can officialy open up registration.
