James Walden married Anne Ellis 1887 Chattanooga, TN
5
I'm looking for my great grandfather James Walden who married Anne Ellis in 1887 in Chattanooga, Tn. I have taken a yDNA 37 marker test that clearly puts me in the Long Hunter family of Elisha Wallen b. 1708 and his 5 sons. Most of the information and DNA cousins I have found put me in the John Wallin b. 1750, 5th and youngest sons line. I believe that James is the son of Isaac Wallen who is the youngest son of John (1750) and his second wife Elizabeth Roberts. James and my great grandmother Anne had 2 children, Maude (1890) and John (1892). That is all I know about James!! Anne married Leander Evans in 1896 either after James died or left the family. The children were raised as Evans. John (1892) married Amanda Alice Newsom in 1915 and had 3 children, Ruby, Leroy, and John Jr (1920). John Sr (1892) died young soon after his last child was born. His wife Alice, my grandmother, married Hartley Combs in 1930. The 2 boys adopted the name Combs. I am the oldest son of Leroy Combs but in the direct genetic line of Elisha Wallen.

Do You Have Famous Ancestors?
15
Do you have famous ancestors? Diane and I would love for you to share your information with this group. To make this easier we are suspending the rule of only discussing members of your direct line. If you are a Smith but your famous ancestor is a Jones that is OK for this discussion. We want you to feel free to join in and let us all enjoy some interesting stories. Who will be first? Jim and Diane

Henry or Robert WALLEN
4
I¡¯m trying to find any information on the above bloke. Supposedly born in England in approximately 1794 (That¡¯ll be easy to find??). He is supposed to have left Plymouth on 1st September 1814 as a crewmember on the Marquis of Wellington 225 ton, Captain Geo. BETHAM with 200 male prisoners for New South Wales. The ship arrived in Sydney on 27 January 1815. He had a mate William or John DAY who was also a crewmember on the same ship. He may be recorded under any of the groups surnames in addition to WALLAN. Any information in England would be welcome. No crew list seem to exist in Australia. Thanks Regards Chris Adelaide, Souh Australia

Lost friend
Hi Folks, Is Diana Williams of Dallas, TX a member of this group by any chance? Diana and I used to communicate regularly (she is a Wallen descendant) but I haven't made contact with her in about 10 years and I have lost her email address. Rob Blevins

Elisha Wallen/Waling Sr. b. 1708

Hi Folks, I know this is a bit of a deep dive but I'm looking for a particular original reference relative to Elisha Wallen/Walling Sr. Supposedly, he was married to a woman named Mary Blevins sometime in the early 1730s and probably in Maryland. A descendant named Mattie Rice wrote about this and I'm told her information can be found in the "Mattie Rice Papers" at the McClung collection in Knoxville. I failed to search for this my last trip to Knoxville and I was hoping someone could point me towards a full available transcription somewhere online. I have bits and pieces of her story, but I always try to get as close to the original material as possible. Thanks in advance for any help. Rob Blevins

Saying Thanks To Our Front-Line Workers
First of all, To all of you who are involved in the "front lines" of this corona virus war - Thank You for all you are doing. Without you we would be in dire straits. Secondly, Diane and I thought it would be a good thing to share what is happening in your locations as far as showing appreciation to everyone involved in fighting the spread of this horrendous pandemic that has plagued the world. Please feel free to share what your community is doing in that regard. We have all seen the firefighters gathered to applaud the health workers. Diane says that she and her neighbors stand outside their doors and clap for the health workers. She suggests singing (to the tune of "Happy Birthday") the following: Thank you very much, Thank you very much, Thank you front line workers, Thank you very much. What ideas do you have? What have you witnessed in your communities? We are together in this and shall come out of it stronger. Jim "Pops" Jackson and Diane Sowden

Henry WALLAN ca1794-1856
G'day Dianne & Jim. Greetings from Kangaroo Island (KI) just off the coast of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. Henry WALLAN was also sometimes known by the Christian names of Robert or Harry. His surname has various forms including WALLEN, WHALLEN, WHALLEY, WORLEY and WARLAND. Henry WALLAN was the clear name in his handwriting in a letter written in 1851. Henry was born in England in approximately 1794. He left Dorset on 1 September 1814 as a crewman aboard a 225-ton vessel, Marquis of Wellington, captain George BETHAM, which was transporting 200 male prisoners to New South Wales. A fellow crewman on the vessel was William (John) DAY. They arrived in Sydney on 27 January 1815. From then until 1819 WALLAN crewed a 40 ton Schooner Henrietta Packet and a 120 ton Brig Sophia. At the end of 1819 WALLAN and DAY were in partnership at Three Wells River on KI and cohabited with two or three aboriginal women possibly brought from Van Diemen¡¯s Land (now Tasmania). WALLAN was on KI at least 17 years before the first official European settlers arrived in South Australia on 27 July 1836. He lived on KI until his death in 1856 and is buried there with a neat grave and headstone What I am trying to find out is any details of WALLAN¡¯s life before he left Dorset in 1814. Was he born or baptised in Dorset? If so whereabouts and who were his parents or siblings? I realise all this is before official BMD records and the fact that I have so little knowledge doesn¡¯t make it any easier for you and the fact that I¡¯m on the other side of the world doesn¡¯t make it any easier for me! Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated Regards Chris

Welcome to the Wallen-Wallin-Walling Group
Welcome to Groups.io, our new home for genealogical discussions. This is an exciting time with a very impressive website and the opportunity to rekindle our communications and, perhaps, revive research that has been set aside for a time. Diane and I want to encourage you to make us of this group with your brick walls, successes, questions and whatever answers you may have for others' queries. To begin with, introductions are encouraged, including some history about yourself etc. If we can feel like a "family" we might get more out of being here. We definitely do not want to make this such a strict environment that you are discouraged from entering or starting discussions. We want you to enjoy being a part of this group and be glad you joined in the first place. If you have other group connections where you may spread the word about us that will be great as well. Looking forward to hearing from you all, Jim "Pops" Jackson and Diane Sowden
