Thank you for writing to us and proposing your idea for a subgroup. I appreciate that you are trying to find ways to foster non-local discussions. There are a couple of reasons why a subgroup would not be ideal. Tim and I would be owners of that subgroup, which is not ideal for that group. Membership would still rely on the rules we set. It would be far better to have a separate group owned and managed by people who wish to set their own guidelines and manage the group accordingly. We would very happily link to that group both when it is getting set up and when there are posts or events the group would like to highlight.?
There had been a post and offer to help set up a separate group a while back, written by John Kingsley. He would be able to help set up a new group that would function in a way that would work for the members of that group. We highly recommend approaching him to see if the offer still stands. And once/if it¡¯s set up, we will help promote it.
Thanks again for writing! See you soon, over that coffee you had suggested!

If WFN would consider allowing this Sub Group (provisionally?called?The-Bridge) that would allow any community member to join either or both newsletters (WFN &?The-Bridge). This way we can connect members of the community and inform them while allowing people individual choice.
If WFN would agree to this?then a few Bridge members would volunteer to moderate?The-Bridge?Sub Group.?? I sincerely hope that you will see this an acceptable option for us to put forward together for our community.
I look forward to your response.? ???

Hi Rob,?
The admins have no wish to even respond to a face to face meeting with Linda, let alone expand the newsletter to a subgroup of troublemakers, unruly people wanting to discuss global issues!??It is too bad, I agree, but off the top of my head in this moment, I say forget about the WF News.? They can continue to run their newsletter as they want.? I missed it a tiny bit at first, I think mostly because it was a habit to see it every day. But now I don't miss it at all.?
I would not even link to it in the way Tamara offers . . . "We would very happily link to that group both when it is getting set up and when there are posts or events the group would like to highlight" . . . I do not see them posting anything in future that they won't allow as a post today,?but that may just be spiteful thinking on my part.
Setting up a new group will be a lot of work, notwithstanding all the work you have put in to now, Rob.? So, the decision will be yours, and others.? I would subscribe though :)
bye for now, edythe

Thanks for your thoughtful response Edythe.?? I agree with you about the WFN (and was appalled that they threw John Kingsley's name?back at us - he is one of the rudest members of WFN)
I wanted to give them a chance?to show their true colours (...yellow) and offer a truly felt solution without vindictiveness. They (at least Tamara) have?made their character and integrity clear to me and I have to accept that they (and others in the community) are a disappointment when it comes to larger matters of social?justice and free speech. More's the pity - but I have not failed them - they have failed us.
I will wait to see if Vagner, Sean, Paola and others are interested in carrying on - if there is consensus then I'd spend some time launching this platform - if only to prove a point and get a message out.

I am disappointed, too, that the Wakefield community so readily acquiesced to censorship and the banning that followed.?? And, you are right about the 'high recommendation' Tamara gives - to approach John Kingsley for advice and help, it's not a good fit.

Well that's really unfortunate! A subgroup was an elegant and easy solution. Where to from here? Like Edythe, I will happily subscribe, but I have too much on my plate, and not enough technical skills, to want to play a major role in setting it up or running it.? It's possible not enough WFN members will subscribe to make a "subgroup" viable, especially if WFN doesn't (isn't asked to) publicize it.?
Given that "The Hills for peace and Justice" material and Vagner's latest link to his blog were published on the WFN, we should be able to flag subgroup content on the WFN if it's more than just a link. ie if it relates to a local event, or is written by one of us. But then only content we actively generate would make it to folks outside the subgroup.....No good solution!!?
Those willing to take on a major role in this should be making the decisions about what/how/when.
