Lawyer recommendation?
Hi, Can anyone recommend a lawyer to review a severance agreement? I think it's pretty standard; just want to make sure I'm not missing something big. Thanks for any help, Katherine Westmoreland -- "When we remember that we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained." Mark Twain

Looking to donate or sell a working car? Seeking one for a single mom who needs it to get to and from work
Hi, friends and neighbors. I'm forwarding the appeal below for another friend and neighbor, Jamila Larson, who is seeking this car for a single mom she has been mentoring. If you have a car you're willing to donate or to sell for $2000 or less, or if you know someone who might, please contact Jamila directly as soon as you can. Her email address is: jamilalarson at yahoo dot com jamilalarson@... As always, many thanks. Greg Do you have a working car that you are looking to get rid of? I have been mentoring an amazing mother of two little ones (newborn and age 2) who's partner needs a car to get to work, which she also needs to use to get to all the kids' appointments. She has been through more than anyone should go through as a child and teen and is the most resilient person you'll ever meet, committed to giving her children a different childhood, one of safety, consistency and nurturance she didn't have. Now in her mid-20s, they are living paycheck-to-paycheck, barely getting by, yet paying and arm and a leg for daily car rental and Ubers. They don't have the savings and credit one would need to buy a used car the traditional way, so I am asking our community of anyone would consider donating or selling a working car for $2000 or less to make a difference in this young family's life? Thank you for considering! Enjoy this beautiful weather, Jamila Larson

Baby spotted lantern flies 5
Hi All. A neighbor tipped me off that they had baby spotted lantern flies in their yard - and lo and behold - so did we (ugh). My husband killed about 200 today by smashing them - encourage others to as well, if you need a way to get out some aggression. They look like this. Thanks, Laura

Road hazard warning 2
Yet another car related mishap from me but this time to my car - driving south on Carroll Avenue at the intersection of University boulevard, I was stopped at the light and could see that there was a ledge between new pavement and old pavement. Taking this into account I proceeded slowly but hit something that completely tore my tire to pieces. Luckily I was able to limp into RS, no mechanical damage, definitely a new tire. Have a care and roll over that part of Carroll without speed at all. Carol I just picked up the car with the donut installed and the mechanic said he had come that way this morning and he absolutely underlines no speed, let your car literally roll under its own power.

Tommy¡¯s Pantry Monthly Update 5.17.2025
Tommy¡¯s Pantry Monthly Update 5.17.2025 Spring Fling 2025 photo by Heather Mayes Gleason Dear Takoma Park and Silver Spring families and friends, As our community faces the changes and challenges brought on by the new federal administration, Tommy¡¯s Pantry continues to serve as a necessities provider and also an information resource in our community. Through training events, immigrant rights organizations like CASA have helped Tommy¡¯s Pantry Board members and volunteers learn how to protect participants living in fear of harassment and possible deportation. Our recent distribution operations pivot provides faster and safer distributions, and we have widely spread Know Your Rights information via multilingual paper flyers, red cards, and a new resource page on our website. Logistics challenges have also arisen. Earlier this month, our wellness item supplier canceled our entire order, likely resulting from tariff complications. The Tommy¡¯s Pantry leadership team quickly shifted to another supplier with completely different pricing and logistics to ensure regular wellness box service in June. These unforeseen side effects from government decisions will likely continue to force us to adapt how we serve our community. As you make summer plans, please check our volunteer page to see if there is a new way you can help at Tommy¡¯s Pantry. We need your time, talent, and donations to keep pace with serving local households in need throughout the summer. Thank you to all who attended or donated to our third annual Tommy¡¯s Pantry Spring Fling. As a result of your generous contributions, we will resume distribution of fresh produce to our participants on a monthly basis starting in June. While Spring Fling raised enough funds to cover three months of produce for our participants, your continued support is appreciated to ensure that Tommy¡¯s Pantry can keep offering fresh fruits and vegetables to local families in need beyond the summer months. Warmly, Wendy Kent, President Upcoming/Ongoing/Recent Events March with us in the Takoma Park 4th of July Parade: If you are in town for the 4th of July, please consider marching with Tommy's Pantry in the Takoma Park 4th of July Parade. Tommy's Pantry marchers will gather at 9 am (location to be announced), and the march begins at 10 am on July 4th. Please email Sarah at sgoupell@... if you can join us, so that we can provide Tommy's Pantry logo gear for all who march. More info about the parade route can be found here. Thank you to all who attended the Annual Spring Fling: Special thanks also to Diana and Billy Conway for again graciously hosting this event for us. With your generous Spring Fling contributions, Tommy¡¯s Pantry is able to resume its monthly offering of fresh fruits and vegetables, beginning in June.
