Greetings
Hello and greetings everyone. I have been missing all of you both in person and in the air. Erin and I moved to Elgin last month, and I am excited to be setting up my shack in the next few weeks. I will be operating VHF only for a while as I try to figure out the best antenna for my lot. If I do get onto HF it¡¯s probably going to be 20m and higher. I do plan on being at field day.

Check ins from the ARES VHF Net 4/10/25
Good morning. Thank you to everyone that joined in last night. We had a few portables check in. We could definitely see the difference between being in a concrete building close to most of the group vs outside up on top of a hill 15 or so miles away! Lessens learned: You can¡¯t beat the high ground and big buildings are hard on VHF reception. 2m Quad Antenna Build
Good morning everyone. Please fill this out based on your interest in building a 2 meter quad antenna. We have not set a date as of yet. We need to make sure that we have ample supplies, support personnel for this project, based on the number of people that are interested in building them. If you are just looking to learn, please fill out the form appropriately. Last time I really enjoyed this build, even though I wasn't one that was taking an antenna home. There are several steps in building this antenna, but the teams that were out there last time, made it much easier for the novice builder. Without further delay, Here is the link. https://forms.gle/TdxKCf5ug5ma773F8 W7GRA 2m Quad Antenna Build We are gathering a list of interested operators for a 2 meter Quad Antenna Build. Date is TBT based on interest. The options are: a single quad(driven and reflector, this is directional) a dual quad(2 driven and 2 reflector elements, this is highly directional and much larger, the 2 quads are side by side). forms.gle Thank you to Tyson for pointing out the needed corrections, there were major mistakes in this form on my part. If you see further mistakes on the form or improper verbiage, please email me immediately. Enjoy the sunny Sunday! de KK7MA

April Sign Up for Sunday Night Night Net , Net Control.
Ok, so I have built a form for volunteering to be net control operator for the VHF Sunday Night Net on the W7GRA repeater. Please consider running the net. It can be a little overwhelming the first time, but it DOES get easier over time! Just click on the link below and fill out the form. If you volunteer and you have never ran a net before, we will help you get started. We have a script and other tools to help you run the net and there are usually others on the air that can help back you up if you run into a problem. CI-V cable is working!
W7GRA, OK, finally have my CI-V programming cable working with my USB to TTL converter. The FTDI driver is rock solid, but the one I bought online was no good! I can issue commands from my VB communication terminal emulation software, but the receive secret to parse the incoming data into readable form is the only hurdle to overcome now, I made a video : https://www.youtube.com/shorts/63FE-UetKR4 Harold KE6JMG 73

2 meter J pole antenna build

We know of a few people that are in need of at least one J-Pole antenna. I've talked to Ted (N7NSL) and he is willing to do an antenna build this Saturday after the club breakfast. Is anyone in need and want to build an antenna this Saturday, say around 10:30? Tyson W7BL
