Hello All,

This Thursday for the 10 meter 'Gallatin Valley' Net, net control will conduct the net on Split Mode.? Net control will transmit on 28.355 but will be listening/taking checkins, up 5 (28.360).? I thought I would give you all a heads up so you can learn how to put your radio in split mode before the net.? Should be a fun exercise!? Winter Field Day 2025
Good afternoon everyone,
?
I will be participating in Winter Field Day next weekend, and would like to invite anyone who would like to join. The official times are from 12pm, 1/25, to 12pm 1/26. We will be at the Headwaters State Park in the campground (coordinates: 45.918049, -111.501884), and I plan on getting to Headwaters around noon on Friday (1/24).
?
I have a canvas wall tent with a stove and plan on camping out each night. Unfortunately, I just sold off all of my split firewood, so if anyone has some that I could purchase from you, I would be very grateful!!
?
My plan is to try and get contacts on as many bands and modes as possible, so if you have ever been interested in any of those wacky modes, or want to experiment, now's the time!
?
Just as a heads up, there is currently quite a bit of snow in the campground. Depending on what the weather does the rest of this week, be prepared to park at or near the campground gate and walk in a couple hundred yards. I'll bring a cart or a sled.
?
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out, and I hope to see you next weekend!

开云体育Good day everyone Dennis W7DVN hereI have a Heathkit hw101 and it needs a new home comes with speaker and microphone.? It needs a new Drive preselactor. I don’t have time or the place (space) to repair it? Result at the Flaherty house during 1/16/2025 7:00 p.m. local time on 28.355+/- for 10 meter net.
Eton Elite Executive radio did not receive, unlike last week's performance.
Yaesu FT-891, used for POTA, was used for this meeting indoors with ATAS 120 antenna.?
Antenna was grounded by copper stake outdoors.
CONS: Weak signal and poor intelligibility.
PROS:? Re-learned how to change from LSB to USB (this time, I saved my notes!) and learned for first time how to change from enabled FM to disabled FM.
In sum, an excellent learning experience!
Thank you, Stacy and Eric, for scheduling this.

Re: MSU ham radio net meetings as of January 2025
My impression is that Caroline and Mark (the only MSU students, it?appears, that are interested in Net Control) need to meet and make date/time/frequency decisions. My impression is that their station, W7YB, may be functional or may not be functional this semester.? My guess: 50-50. Carol P.S. Pat and I will set up our Yaesu FT-891 in the house and grounded outside the house for the Thursday?Net at 7:00 p.m. (receive and, hopefully, transmit). We will also keep the Eton running. We will participate for about an hour!? On Wed, Jan 15, 2025 at 1:20?PM Stacy KK7CJV via <stroscoe2001=[email protected]> wrote:

Carol KA7ROL, Great news.? This weekend I was putting together a Field Manual and was constructing a page for all the local Gallatin Valley Repeaters.? I saw the 447.70 and tested it out this weekend to check if it was still operational, to my surprise it was.? Can you find out what time they are conducting the Monday net on 447.700?? That way we can post the info on the groups.io page and Facebook.? So others in the valley can test out their antennas and equipment on the 70cm band net.? Thank you, ?Stacy? KK7CJV

At this point, I'm not sure what we're planning to do (nets, meetings, etc.) this semester -- hopefully Mark and I will have a chance to talk about that and get it figured out before too long. Re: 10 meter operations
Jim, Thank you for your great write-up!? I'm glad the 10 Meter Net has helped inspire you to play along and solve any issues on your station that have arose.? Others had never tried these modes with their particular radio so it has proven very beneficial to all ranges of hams at different expertise levels.? Thank you for joining in on the radio fun and hope to hear you on the air Thursday! Thank you, ?KK7CJV Stacy

A couple of years ago I switched from an older Kenwood HF to a new Icom 7300 which has many more bells, whistles and functions that I don't understand. I'm not very active and the past couple of months when I turned on the rig I have had trouble with SWR and
effective HF operations. I assumed that I had external tuner? component corrosion or an antenna problem. I use a G5RW dipole which is a hearty multiband antenna that takes up 103 feet between end mounts and is good for 6 to 80 meters with a good antenna tuner.
My "go to" external antenna tuner is an MFJ 948 which allowed me to load all bands on the G5RV with low SWR. When I bought the 7300, I also bought an ADG AT 100 auto tuner for a try.? The MFJ 948 manual tuner still significantly outperformed the ADG auto tuner,
so the ADG is sitting on a shelf.
The last couple of weeks I spent some of time checking? my antenna and feedlines so that I could get on 10 meters for your popup net, but the best forward power I could get was 10 watts out.? I could get up to 50 watts out on a couple of other bands, but I
have a 100-watt radio, and I knew I that had a problem.?
I went over my G5RV section by section, redid connectors and finally cleaned all the conductors and capacitors in the MFJ tuner. I still had low RF output and high SWR.? Finally I started looking at Utube videos about Icom IC 7300's. I have only had the radio
a couple of years, don't operate often and am not very familiar with all the quirks, so thank goodness for Utube. After a couple of videos I decided that I had bad final transistors that should be replaced. Apparently the Icom 7300 has a problem with failing
finals.??
Before I ordered 2 new transistors at $40 each or boxed up the radio to send to Icom for service, I thought it prudent to read the manual.? Low and behold, it had a brief paragraph instructing users to make sure that the internal antenna tuner (a feature on
a 7300)? is turned off before using an external antenna tuner.? Yup, my internal antenna tuner icon in the upper left corner of the display was "on" (apparently a default setting).? According to the manual, If the internal tuner is on and an external antenna
tuner is applied, they fight with each other.?
I turned the internal tuner off, went through all the bands tuning with the MFJ? 948 from 75 meters to 6 meters, and have 100 watts forward and SWR's of 1.1/1 on all bands.? I had a couple of nice contacts on 10 meters yesterday with good signal reports.?
Lessons that I learned:
-Read the manual first?
-The more I use a G5RV antenna with a tuner, the better I like it.?
-Having a local group of younger hams getting excited about ham radio can motivate an old guy to dust the cobwebs off the radio.? Thank you!
I hope to check in Thursday with 100 watts.? Jim WA7MKN

Howdy,
?
Troy, AF7HG here. I've been traveling quite a bit and find myself asking for a sub more than I'd like for the 88 net on the second Tuesday of the month. I've really enjoyed doing it for the past ten years or so but I feel it's time to pass the torch. ?Any takers? ?I will be unavailable ?this Tuesday, the 14th of January but can cover until we have a permanent replacement.?
