Re: Invitation / request to participate: WY-ARES NVIS Day, May 10, 2025
Sally,
?
Yes, I was thinking of scheduling a Camper Shakeout on the weekend of May 9-11.? Matt (AA7VG) had mentioned the WY NVIS event is also scheduled for that same weekend, providing much radio play opportunities.? I am also trying to find a location that will accommodate all potential campers that want to be involved.? Some have mentioned Crow Creek Campground and Radersburg for potential sites.? I am searching for a site that will also be a POTA entity for more radio operating opportunities.? I am leaning towards Duck Creek Campground.? It is located on the very south end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir, on the East side of the reservoir.? It has wide open locations where we can squeeze in many with ample space and it is a POTA entity (US-4572 Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail). ? I will bring the Off-center Fed Dipole to try to grab NVIS contacts and other antennas to try out as well.? This will be a great time to shake out the campers and radio stations prior to camping season and Field Day!? Let me know your thoughts who plans to participate.? I will send out an announcement with details as we get closer to the date.
?

Hey Stacy, This is the weekend you were talking about doing a camping trip.?
?
Would you like to do some planning to participate with the WY NVIS??

I have the cable's here with the tower.
And am ashamed to say that I put that tower up without deploying the guy cable's thinking without anything on it it would take a lot of wind to tip and it over.? Well...it came down. Luckily very minimal damage.

I have another tower I got from Dale...I gave him $100 for it.? It will have to find a new home also. I think we did us this beam and tower out at Dales in the past?
For now I will plan on bringing the extra beam to field day.
Ultimately it will need to find a new home at some point.

There are 2 club tri-band beams:?? A Cushcraft ... which has
plates to hold the elements to the boom and a
Mosley which uses U bolts to attach the elements to the boom.?
Both have been used in the past but, yes,
it's been a while (at W7NAV's I believe). Both have been
serviced.? I replaced the traps on the Mosley some
years ago and it should be in near new condition. Personally, I
think the Mosley is the better beam and is
easier to assemble.? I rebuilt the traps on the Cushcraft about
15 years ago. In the short run (a few years)
I'd like to keep both until we see if we will be running 2 club
stations regularly at Field Day.? Or if we do, we decide to use
a beam for one station and (multi-band) dipoles at the other
station. To use a 2nd beam requires (at east) a 30' mast
to start seeing meaningful gain and directionality.? If there is
a choice I'd go with the Mosley.?? :-)
I believe I've mentioned there is an OCF multi-band dipole in the
trailer and I have a 20/40 m dipole we've used
in the past, as well.
SOMEWHERE, there? is a 40m? mono-band beam that belongs to the
club, but I don't know where it is.?? :-(
And, it hasn't been used in at least 25 years!?
My take on things.
